First, a few good points: A nice and cosy looking property with great potential to be a good holiday home because of its location. Ideal for travelling. However we were disappointed with the poor state of property upkeep. Tired furnishings, shower was poor. Shower head in bad position. Water main was temperamental to an extent you need to open it at a certain point in order to fill the toilet. Overall cleanliness was very poor with slug trails in kitchen, lounge and hallways. Parking space was narrow and awkward, but manageable. Ghost heaters which come on itselves in the middle of the night and they would make it extremely uncomfortable to sleep in the night. Now a few ugly truths.. the advert is misleading. Note that nearby castle itself is closed and also the castle garden is not accessible for walk. It would cost you £15 per person to gain access in certain period of the year. Don't be fooled by the description of summer heated swimming pool. In actual fact it is two roads away from the property at a distance of at least 800 meters away. Also will cost you £6 person to gain access. Now some absolutely dangerous points: Both bed rooms are on the first floor. Both bedrooms just have a very narrow window (size: 3ft length x 1ft width). If the property catches fire, you have no chance of escaping by jumping off the window. I don't know how H&S Executive will allow this property to be advertised as holiday dwelling.

Lovely cottage in Greystoke. Very nice outdoor swimmingpool nearby. Not far from a lot of nice places to visit in the neighbourhood. We visited the house of Beatrix Potter, it was very special. Nice house when you travel Sith your dog.

I have been to Greystoke before and I have always loved the place. But this was my first time at this property. I had to work for the first couple days during our stay. The whole experience revolved around access to hot water. I was late to work because there was no hot water. We didn’t know at that time that hot water was timed to switch off at 6:30 and if one person had a shower, then others cannot. We are a family of four and after a day of trekking, hillwalking and climbing, we did not have access to proper hot shower or hot water. Our whole experience was ruined because of that. It was extremely frustrating. We learnt from someone else that previously guests have complained against this and it has never been resolved. I can’t understand why would someone on a holiday would get up and take a bath at 6:30? Then the neighbour came and helped us by allowing us to access “The Boost”, which was no access to guests!!! Not having access to hot water at this day and age in a rental property is extremely disappointing. It’s fine for a family of 2 but when you have kids it’s frustrating. House was clean. Parking is a bit of an issue but not a problem. There is no network inside the house and the wifi password was wrong but we managed to get the right one. It’s a cozy place and beds were comfortable. Due to problems with hot water, I would not go back.

Foxglove cottage is ideally situated in the village, very close to the shop/post office and the excellent "Boot and Shoe" pub. The cottage was clean on arrival, maybe a little dated on the interior, but this adds to the charm. Beds were clean and comfy and the free wi- fi was a nice touch along with the freeview tv. Plenty of good walks and a lovely park and outdoor pool nearby.
