Traditional Japan vibe. Interior decoration had charm. The little complimentary biscuits in the room were a cute and yummy touch too! Breakfast was nice and freshly cooked, better than a buffet that you get at most modern hotels. Very clean too despite being old, the view from my room was cool too.
Most things were good, although in my room there were no blinds to fully darken the room, just a traditional Japanese sliding paper door. In the morning it isn’t blinding, but if you’re sensitive to light it can wake you up, although some people say it’s good to be woken up by natural morning light 😆 ほとんどの点は良かったです。

We had a wonderful stay at Ikaho Syusuien. The breakfast and dinner were absolutely lovely, with an incredible variety of dishes and generous portions. We left every meal feeling completely satisfied (and very full!). Our room was spacious, comfortable, and had a beautiful view of the surrounding mountains. It also overlooked the rock garden, which added to the peaceful atmosphere, although it appeared to be in need of a little maintenance. We especially enjoyed spending time in the café/lounge, which was a relaxing place to unwind, and appreciated the convenience of the vending machine area. The outdoor onsen was one of the highlights of our stay—it was quiet, peaceful, and the perfect place to relax while surrounded by nature. Overall, we had a very enjoyable stay and would happily recommend this ryokan to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway in Ikaho.
While we had a wonderful stay overall, there were a couple of small touches that I think would make the experience even better. At many of the highly rated ryokans we've visited, a staff member escorts guests to their room with their luggage, gives a brief introduction to the property, explains the history of the ryokan, and points out important amenities and information about the room. We think that extra level of hospitality really enhances the arrival experience and would have been a welcome addition here as well. We also would have appreciated a shuttle service to and from the Ikaho Bus Terminal. The ryokan is a bit farther from the main stone steps and bus terminal than some others in the area, and after traveling with luggage, a short pickup service would have been a thoughtful convenience. We noticed several nearby ryokans offering this service, and it would make arriving and departing even more seamless for guests traveling by public transportation.

Great food and breakfast Nice location Very friendly and helpful staff
Dinner room was extremely hot and uncomfortable, also very dry air that hurt our eyes The building visible next door was an abandoned building Very thin walls, the next room was very loud No lockers at the bath area Only one of the gender split baths had an outdoor bath
