Sokullu Pasa Hotel - Special Class

Location: The hotel is in a great location, only a 6 to 10-minute walk from the main attractions, including the Blue Mosque, Süleymaniye Mosque, and the Grand Bazaar. There are plenty of restaurants nearby, although they can be a little expensive. The hotel is also very close to the Galata Bridge. The night manager was excellent and kindly allowed us to check into our room at 9:00 a.m., which was much earlier than the standard check-in time. The breakfast area was very pleasant, calm, and relaxing. There was a wide variety of food to choose from, along with excellent tea and coffee. All of the staff were friendly, polite, and helpful throughout our stay. Overall, we had a very enjoyable experience and would happily stay here again.

The only issues we experienced were with the air conditioning and the jacuzzi shower. The air conditioning unit was installed in the room, but it was very weak and did not provide much cooling. As a result, the room was supplied with two large fans. Regarding the shower, the jacuzzi bath was quite high, and my wife found it difficult to get in and out safely. In addition, the shower curtain did not fully cover the shower area, which meant that water regularly spilled onto the bathroom floor. This made the floor around the shower quite slippery. Apart from these issues, everything else was very good, and we enjoyed our stay.

1. TV programming is limited, and TV is unreliable. Difficult to navigate to channels. 2. Shower tub too hard to get into because the tub is very high and there is no grab bar. 3. Room lighting is poor. Hard to read book, newspaper because the lighting is poor. 4. Lobby is too dark and seems unwelcoming.

Amazing location - if you don’t mind a 5 to 10-minute uphill walk to Sultanahmet Square and the Blue Mosque. It was also quiet, on a small street with little through traffic. Small friendly bar/restaurant nearby (Amor Mio?) for drinks and the restaurant next door was good. There was also a small shop opposite the hotel.

We had - I think - the biggest room (402 on the top floor with a balcony). When we arrived in mid-May the room was baking hot and had a smell of drains. We were told that the a/c was being switched on the next day but it took us 2 more nights before we could sleep properly. The room was large but the hotel is in need of a refurb (the drain smell came and went; shower door didn’t close; kettle had to be plugged in on the floor as the cord didn’t reach). Breakfast was basic.
