About this farm stay rental
River House is a stylishly restored traditional farmhouse tucked away down a private track in 3 acres of its own gardens, with it's own woods and beautiful river frontage.
It offers complete tranquility, yet is only c3 miles from the bustling market town of Skibbereen (and a short drive to multiple beaches and villages nearby).
At the heart of the property is a 500 year old farmhouse, which has been extended with style and imagination in recent years to make it into a wonderful 4 bedroom house, with two separate bathrooms, a large farmhouse kitchen, a cosy sitting room and a stunning very large dining room and conservatory.
In addition, one of the barns has also been converted to offer an additional family space and kitchen, with 2 more beds, and a shower room. NB this is available only for guests who are using the house and can be added to the rental for a small additional sum.
The house has wonderful character & style, with thick walls and traditional features combined with high quality modern fixtures and furnishings.
Outside, the property has beautiful woods and a large private garden, it also has a trampoline and 70 meters of frontage onto the River Ilen (salmon fishing in season). It also offers an outside bath!
If you are looking for a sense of peace, tranquility and back to nature, combined with modern fittings and comforts, the River House is magical place.
It is also great for families sharing ,with 2 bedrooms & a bathroom at each end of the house, plus potential (as above) to also add the barn if needed.

The River House is a very special place. This was our second time here with our American and Irish families.Whether reading in the conservatory, walking to and wading in the river or jumping on the trampoline, everyone had so much to do. The beds are extremely comfortable and the bathrooms have great water pressure - and those long deep tubs are wonderful! The kitchen is well-stocked with every kind of cooking supply you might need to feed a large group and there's plenty of seating. Our favorite place in the house was the "red room" just off the kitchen, with its ancient hearth and comfortable sofas - perfect for telling Irish faerie tales and playing traditional tunes. Jim and Coleen were very responsive throughout our nearly two-week stay. We couldn't have asked for a lovelier stay.

We had the most lovely stay at River House. The home is stunning. Art everywhere and beautiful details. We enjoyed walks along the river, warm fireside chats in the evening, and cooking meals together in the fully stocked kitchen. They even set up a Christmas tree for us and let us bring along our little dog. Communication was thoughtful, prompt, and kind, and Colleen provided many suggestions for things to do in west cork. Check in was smooth and flexible. West Cork is full of culture and warmth and endless beauty. Too many things to see. Can’t wait to return. River House provided a hub to explore the area and a home that was comfortable and cozy. Would recommend again and again.

River House again provided a serene haven for four generations of family to gather. This year our youngest daughter, her husband and their 10 month old son joined my husband, my father and me. They were not able to join us last Fall as she was expecting and it was too close to her due date. Happily the baby is a good traveler and the thick walls and ideal set up muffled any noises that might wake others. Jim, the property manager, was as friendly as ever and helped us feel at home. Colleen, the owner, was lovely, welcoming and super responsive. We would not hesitate to stay again!
