About this cottage rental

Cherry Tree Cottage is a charming cobb cottage in a village setting, in the heart of the Kenn Valley, and only 5 miles from the city of Exeter. The convenient location, just off the A38/A380 "Crossroads to Devon", gives easy access in any direction - the coast within (15 minutes) inc Torquay, the Exe Estuary Cycling and Walking trails (which runs from Dawlish up to Exeter and Topsham and onto Exmouth), the East for the Jurassic Coast (15 minutes), the stunning Dartmoor National Park (20 minutes), the stunning Teign Valley (15 minutes), The English Riviera, Torquay and Paignton (25 minutes), Plymouth (25 Minutes) and North Devon (1 hour), etc.
The property has 2 bedrooms - 1 double and 1 single (sleeps 3). It has an Inglenook fireplace and Woodburning stove , a Rangemaster cooker to complete the beautiful homely country kitchen/diner, dishwasher and washer/dryer. The wet room is beautifully finished with Italian travertine tiles. The hand-made oak staircase is a particular feature of the property. There is a peaceful and pretty cottage garden where you can sit out and enjoy a glass of wine!
The village has a friendly pub just 100 metres from the door, and just a mile away is the Ley Arms, a 12th Century thatched pub. We also have The Wobbly Wheel cafe open daily for breakfast and lunch. The Wobbly wheel also sells milk, eggs and bread (open 8am to 430pm Monday to Saturday and 10am to 430pm on Sundays).

Cherry Tree Cottage is cosy and clean with a beautiful garden and amazingly comfortable beds. It's very well equipped and proved to be a wonderful "home from home" for four weeks while we needed to be close to our newly-arrived grandson. Jacqui is a friendly and helpful host and her great attention to detail ensures that all guests have a very enjoyable stay. We particularly appreciated the very detailed tourist information and walking guides. The cottage is very well located with lovely walks - and pubs! - on the doorstep and easy access to Exeter, Dartmoor and the beaches of South Devon. We'll be back!

We really enjoyed our stay. The welcoming scones and clotted cream were great, the valuable information they provided before and after we arrived. The cottage was very comfortable and the nearby pub and store were valuable. I would recommend to anyone. Nice central location for exploring.

We enjoyed our second stay in Cherry tree cottage. It is very cosy with lots of character. It is clean,comfortable and well equipped, with everything you need. Although we weren't lucky with the weather this time, the garden is lovely to sit out in when it's nice. The host made us welcome, with a cream tea and milk in the fridge. The location is good with easy access to many places to visit.

This is a lovely cottage located in a fantastic village with direct link to A38 but you feel a million miles away from a minor route. The house wax clean, well equipped, felt homely with a touch of luxury. Beds were very comfortable, with second bedroom suitable for a child or adult. Lovely garden for sitting out. Host was helpful and easy to contact. The village has a great local shop and lovely pub with very friendly locals and staff and amazing food - you must try. We will stay again!

I stayed here with my sister as we were going to Toby's Garden Festival at Powderham Castle. It was an ideal location and even though it was on the main road through the village it was still very quiet. It was handy having the local shop very nearby. The cottage had everything we needed and is very well laid out.Jacqui had left a cream tea for us to have on arrival - delicious! It was lovely to be able to sit out in the garden in the evening too. We met Jacqui when we collected the key and throughout our stay she was easy to contact and she made sure everything was ok for us. Jacqui and Paul had put together a box full of information about places to visit and walks to do - and there are plenty - which was really useful. We used one of the walk books and did a delightful walk around Lustleigh - highly recommend. We hope to return as this was such a gem. We would certainly recommend it.

Both my friend and I felt very comfortable at Cherry Tree Cottage. It had everything we needed (as described in the listing) and made the perfect base for exploring the area. Just what we needed - a comfortable little cottage with two bedrooms, all clean, very handy for a short drive to Exeter. Parking right outside the cottage wasn't possible as there are many cars parked nearby, but we managed to find a space close by. Thanks for the flapjacks!

Cherry Tree cottage is lovely! Jacqui and Paul were such wonderful hosts and provided a cozy place to stay. They were so helpful with their knowledge of local places of interest for hiking, biking, and eating and so gracious in making me feel well taken care of. Really enjoyed getting to know them and the area.

The cottage is well equipped and in a small village about 4 miles form Exeter. The bathroom had been renewed and was stunning. Jacqui was really helpful and gave us lots of tips which were invaluable. The only slightly negative thing that we thought was that the kitchen is a bit "tired" and could do with some renovation. Other than that, a very nice cottage.

It was a pleasant surprise to find the downstairs cloakroom. The dishwasher stank and it’s filter was full of waste food on arrival which I had to empty. The kitchen sink also stank with bits of food on the drain, the wooden surround was black mouldI feel no cleaning could have been carried out in these areas. There was a note to say that the sink overflow was blocked, why had it not been fixed. These finds did spoil our stay there as you wondered about the attention to detail.

We stayed here for three nights with our three-year-old son. Jacqui and Paul were great owners - quick communication, thoughtful touches (stair gate, cuddly toys and scones on arrival!) and a well stocked house. It's a lovely cottage to use as a base for a break in Devon. I'd highly recommend it!

Upon arrival the cottage appeared to be clean. Although upon further inspection it was obvious a more thorough clean was needed as there were lots of cobwebs on the ceilings and walls and a lot of dust on the staircase and light fittings. There are a few minor plumbing and maintenance issues that need to be addressed hence why we only gave 3 stars, this coupled with rusty garden furniture that either needs repainting or replacing. We feel this is constructive criticism which will help the owners enhance this lovely cottage.

The cottage was clean, nicely furnished and welcoming, with extra touches including toiletries, milk and other essentials on arrival as well as a delicious cream tea! The shower is lovely and the beds very comfortable. Jacqui and Paul were very friendly and helpful and there is a wealth of useful local information giving ideas for nice walks and places to visit. The local shop is also very handy just a few doors down. The cottage is in a very handy position, with easy access to Exeter, Dartmoor and the coast. We particularly liked Topsham and Shaldon for great independent shops and waterside locations, Haldon Forest and Haytor for lovely walks with amazing views and Ashburton is a foodie's paradise - check out The Old Library for a fabulous brunch. We had a slight issue checking in because the key safe code had been changed and I hadn't seen Jacqui's email telling me about this, but she answered her phone immediately and the problem was soon sorted. Our only negative was that there was quite a lot of noise in the street late at night on our first night, presumably from people leaving the pub a few doors away, but this only happened once. Apart from that we had a lovely time and wouldn't hesitate to return. Many thanks and we hope to be back :-)

We had a really delightful week staying in Cherry Tree Cottage. It is small but so comfortable and has all necessary amenities. It was very clean and Jacqui our host even provided a cream tea for us on our arrival! A perfect base for us to visit various friends in the area. The pub in the village is a must - we ate there three times in our week! The shop is open every day which is very handy. I heartily recommend Cherry Tree Cottage
