Naturfreunde Hostel Grindelwald

Beautiful location and garden, house very well maintained, with love and care. Super friendly staff

Given this is an old wooden house, you hear the next door neighbours. We have been there at the busiest time I guess

The Hostel was in a very pretty area on top of a pretty steep hill but away from the town congestion, breakfast was as always in Switzerland - filling, tasty and abundant

The Hostel is on top of a steep hill and no food options up there so eat before you travel to the hostel, If you get there late one of the wandering guests will open the front door for you and your bedding will wait in a big sack right by the entrance, together with your room key. Arriving in Grindelwald after 18:30 limits transfer options from the rail station to very few taxis, which may also be challenging to get hold of, the phone number at the taxi stand says 24x7 but did not pick up when I called. I ended up going to a hotel by the station and they offered to call for taxi because they deal with taxi all the time. (so taxi listens to them?) Hiking up the hill is fun, very pretty, why else go to Switzerland right? But my family included our grandchild, and my wife was a bit exhausted already too Uber - locals will tell you Uber is a "ripoff" so no Uber in Switzerland (for ripoff wait for what the taxi will charge you for a 5 min ride after you booked a hostel for budget travelers :o) But overall staying at the hostel was an extension of traveling around Switzerland - green, splendid views on the three peaks across the valley, way better in my opinion than staying in Grindelwald "proper"

Fantastic breakfast with fresh bread, jus, and fruits. Comfy beds, access to kitchen. Clean bathrooms and showers had a strong water pressure. Amazing green garden in the back, cozy place.
