It’s a typical (youth)hostel, compact and functional. It’s also situated in a scenic spot. Staff are friendly and cordial. A decent breakfast goes with the stay.
The lower bunk bed is too low for convenience, especially for seniors. The safety board of the upper bunk bed is so low that falling off cannot be ruled out completely.Wi-fi doesn’t work too well.

The place was great, nice views, the facilities were nice, they had board games and the breakfast buffet was delicious. We had a great time there and the staff was really nice. The public transport stop is right in front of the place.
It would be nice to have private lockers or somewhere to place the luggage.

The surrounding and the location itself is very cosy.
Not many food/ snacks option available for who is s arriving late at night, eventhough they do offer few things like chocolate and chips, nothing like warm food .

It was clean and the view was nice
The reception was not working, and they did not give us any information at the reception, had to ask multiple times. Also there was a dog on the property which we were not aware of. They make us do everything on our own, put bedsheets, covers, remove and take them to laundry etc etc. Also the location is on a very scheduled area which you can reach by bus but there is only 1 bus per hour or else you have to walk quite a bit up the hill. Also they charge you for everything, for using their cutlery to borrowing towels etc. I have been to multiple hostels but this was the worst.

View from dining area
Dorm room price should be lesser than any other, as its placed under ground. No view from room.

Excellent experience and exceeded my expectations! It's very easy to locate as it was just in front of a bus stop. It's an old hostel but didn't look like as they did an excellent job in the renovation. I was really impressed with how the interior was modernized - the materials used, flooring, fixtures etc. are all modern and even small details like the chalkboard with the house rules etc. made it very cozy. The room was comfortable and clean. It was really backpacker style as you need to put your own beddings which I think is really smart and practical. They even have outdoor seating at the back (very relaxing) with an amazing view of the mountain plus a friendly hostel dog. The staff was very helpful, friendly and knowledgeable. They also had common toilets, lockers and kitchen at the basement which were very convenient.
The breakfast was ok for the price but some boiled eggs won't hurt

Great location and value. We were hiking through and this was great for a hot meal, some relaxation, and a quiet rest. Everything was clean and welcoming. Showers were great.

It was very clean and well maintained. The staff was also very friendly and helpful.
There was less facilities. As the kind of money they charge they can give towels and make the bed it doesn’t take much effort. Worst was the location for the first u are mesmerised by the beautiful nature around but then the transportation kicks in. There is only one bus to the hostel from railway station and that too last one till 18:44 pm at summer it is very disappointing as we are not done with exploration so early as it not dark till that time but have either come back and get locked in the hostel or walk steep uphill

I had an amazing experience at Naturfreunde Hostel. The staff were incredibly accommodating, friendly, approachable, and genuinely attentive to guests’ needs. A standout example, I had to check out before breakfast, and they thoughtfully prepared a packed lunch for my journey so I wouldn’t go hungry. That kind of care really sets this place apart.
The facilities are lovely. The shared kitchen was well-equipped and easy to use, and the communal areas offered a relaxed space to unwind and connect with fellow travellers. It felt welcoming without being overbearing, just the right balance.
The location is ideal. A shuttle bus runs between the station and the hostel, making it easy to get into town or back up the hill without hassle. Whether you're here to hike, explore, or simply take in the views, the setup makes everything feel accessible!
Highly recommend for anyone looking for a friendly, well-run base in Grindelwald. Will definitely be staying again! Thank you very much!
I enjoyed every part of my stay!

The property was beautiful, we felt like we were in a Christmas film! It was all so cosy and presented beautifully. Everywhere was spotless, so clean and tidy. Every staff member was so welcoming and friendly and so informative. Breakfast was great also! So many facilities for everybody.
We didn’t like the climb up to the property at 21:00 hours with a 22kg suitcase each because the buses stopped at 18:44! Not the property’s fault though haha!

Beautiful view of the mountains
Very far from the centre and NOT on the Via alpina trail as noted in the hotel description. You definitely need to take the bus from the bus loop to the hotel otherwise it’s a steep walk up the hill. We were disappointed that the hotel was not on the Via Alpina. We ended up needing to take two different bus and waiting 30 between to get to the next section of the trail.
The staff very unhelpful when we asked questions about getting to town or going to Jungfrau joch. I honestly felt like I was a nuisance for asking a question.

Nice place
We asked if we can check in earlier
They replied that yes we can. When we came then nobody was there and we got no help. So we wasted about 2 hours to wait. Noone came. If you promise them please keep promises as well!

The outdoor area is really great and has a lovely view. The bus stops right outside, which is convenient (at least until it stops running in the early evening). Mattress was comfortable.
The beds are very squeaky and don’t seem very stable. Bathroom facilities weren’t very clean and toilets ran out of toilet paper quickly. Not very secure - anyone could walk in as the front door was not locked and the rooms were not lockable. The host was a little unfriendly.

Fantastic breakfast. NIce location and convenient to transport
The bedding was unusual in that you were expected to cover the sheets with material they provided so as to keep the bedding clean

Clean. Amazing backyard views.
A little far from town. Also costs 7 euro to rent a towel and costs 5 euro to cook in the hostel kitchen. Never encountered that at a hostel before. Kitchen very small also. Nitpicking, but you want honesty.

Owmer is good, dpg is cute, breakfast is good, bus stop is at doorstep which is GREAT! Backyard view is amazing!
No private space. Beds are joint so 3 strangers sleep side by side. No privacy in toilet. Men amd women share same bath and toilet.

Amazing location nestled along the mountains - fantastic views but a very steep walk from the main town, the local bus comes by once every hour. Free local bus travel using the guest pass. Great faculties, clean bathroom and shower, breakfast included. It was pretty quiet during our stay in April. Good heating. Friendly staff. Felt right at home.
Expensive to pay for laundry - 20CHF for a large load. No wifi in the rooms, wifi only accessible in the downstairs living room.

Good price for the area, and it had its own bus stop from Grindelwald. Free breakfast was very nice, especially in the very expensive city of Grindelwald. Beautiful views from its kitchen while eating breakfast.
We didn't realize there wouldn't be towels or soap/shampoo, only after the reception was gone for the first night. I would have appreciated if this were communicated beforehand.
Also, we didn't see any bugs, but realized halfway into our first night that there were lots of reviews of bedbugs on the floor under us sometime last year for a period of a few months, and were afraid that they might still have been there. The bottom bunk bed being on the floor was a bit scary after realizing this. That said, the hotel may have done a very good job here, as we haven't seen any reviews since then, and it seems the hotel was avoiding giving rooms to the rooms that were said to be affected in the reviews. So the fear (possibly unjustified) of bedbugs was a negative experience, but as we didn't encounter this or hear about other folks encountering it, maybe it's a positive thing overall that the hotel handled this.

Amazing views from the hostel. Breakfast was very enjoyable. I felt safe and slept reasonably well. I was surprised how diverse the age groups were of the other holiday makers.
The shower floor was always wet.
The property was at the top of a very steep hill. The bus stopped before 9pm and taxis were a little expensive.

Very clean!
The Owner and whole staff was so friendly and helpful! He really made our stay worth. I had booked the hostel solely based on reviews and that was good.
The beds are comfortable, blankets are kept in the reception so even if you reach late you will get your room.
The breakfast was optimal, fresh and delicious. less options for vegetarian or someone who doesn't eat beef or pork. The breakfast had fresh breads, Swiss milk, Muesli, cornflakes, yoghurt, Berry yoghurt, fresh orange juice, apples. Also beef and pork and cheese slices.
Hair Dryer is provided and if you need any first aid they will provide that too.
Carry your own toiletteries, handwash is there in washroom.
Wifi is strong near reception area
For people who are too old or cant hike or dont have a car - You can't stay late in the Grindelwald city without car as bus connection is only till 18.00 or 18.30. We took our car down or hike a steep mountain to reach up.
