About this cottage rental
Townfoot Cottage is a contemporary and sophisticated country cottage, nestling in a ‘picture postcard’ setting in the heart of the Langdale valley, within the pretty hamlet of Elterwater. Directly from the door you can enjoy some of the most beautiful and inspiring walks in the Lake District, with the added bonus of returning at the end of each day to the charming surroundings of Townfoot Cottage.
Found in the corner of a small courtyard of traditional Lakeland cottages, Townfoot Cottage provides two bedrooms and a family bathroom. The cottage entrance brings you into the contemporary, luxury-fitted kitchen and eating area. Alongside is the living area where you can relax and in colder weather, enjoy the warmth of a log-burning stove, while the large windows allow the Lakeland light to flood in.
There is a useful laundry/cloakroom at the foot of the stairs and upstairs there are two stylish bedrooms with window seats, where you can enjoy the lovely views. The modern family bathroom is designed for long soaks after a hard day on the fells! Private parking is right outside the cottage.
Spa, sauna, swimming pool and gym access is included, free with your stay.
The Lakes has a good bus service. For those with a car, there is a parking space just outside the cottage. This is fitted with a 7kW EV charger for those who wish to bring and charge an electric vehicle.
We are happy to welcome up to two well behaved dogs. However, if you have more than two dogs, feel free to contact us to discuss your needs as we are sometimes flexible, depending on the breed/size etc. No cats allowed, thanks.
There is a set of 4 foldaway camping chairs, for your use outside.

The property was clean and comfortable, and Elterwater is a lovely area to stay in with lovely scenery outside the front door. Sheep just roam freely, so make sure you drive carefully!
It's also a great starting point for a number of good walks. We had lots of days where we didn't need to use to car to enjoy a day out and great views.
If you fancy having a day in Grasmere, we would definitely recommend the walk over the fells into Grasmere, which took us about an hour.
Alun was a great host, with good communication before and throughout our stay. We were missing some tools for the fire, which Alun kindly sorted out for us.
We would highly recommend Lanty Slees which is a 5 min walk from the property. It is a lovely little bar where we grabbed a cocktail and a dessert one evening, and returned the next day for a great cooked breakfast.
If you fancy something a bit more fancy, the Eltermere Inn does some lovely food. We popped in there for a nice Sunday lunch and weren't disappointed.
We really enjoyed our stay, and would recommend Townfoot Cottage to anyone wanting to visit the Lakes.

We had an exciting and beautiful stay in Elterwater! Looking at the photo of the cottage, on arrival is surprised once again by the beauty of Elterwater! And... if you have slept one night, the next morning goes outside the door and a view - terrific! Every day we could discover a bit more in Elterwater! The Vrbo app was convenient and the host Alun could not have been more helpful. The location is frankly stunning. Arriving, leaving, and just looking out the front door all offer beautiful views. A great circular trail run, wild swimming, and prime fell walking routes are all near within a short walk. The cottage was very well appointed - good shower and an open plan kitchen which covered all the needs. Absolutely no complaints, and we hope to return soon.

Townfoot cottage perfect’ so cosy. Rainfall shower was heaven. So much bigger than we imagined. Parking outside the front door a massive bonus. Wonderful cottage in a wonderful village. We will return for certain
