Thornthwaite Farm

The cottages were very clean, beds were extremely comfortable and small details were thought of such as hooks on doors and soap holders. There was a washing machine and dryer in the barn for our use. We spent lots of time on the large comfy sofa! We loved the beautiful and peaceful location, and the kids had a great time with the horses which came right up behind the garden! Plenty of wonderful views around the house and we especially loved to sit on the bench up the path and take in the 360 degree view right to the estuary and the mountains in the other direction. Jean was lovely company and kept offering advice for places to take the kids - bless her!

It is a real shame that there is no direct access to the garden from the cottages. That really upset us. Woodmans cottage does have a large picture window which is a great bonus, but the stable only has a small window high up. The garden itself is a wonderful space with expansive views such a shame you can only access it by going from the front door round to the back of the cottages.

My Husband & I planned a weekend trip with no distractions or disruptions.. And we definitely got that in abundance!! We stayed in Stable Cottage which is the end cottage in a row of 3 cottage's.. The location of the cottage is absolutely beautiful, when we first arrived we both looked at each other and asked "what is that noise?" And the answer was nothing!! Apart from the birds singing and each other's voices there was nothing!! So peaceful, so tranquil, so beautiful - are just a few descriptions of our stay.. We wanted to be able to turn our phones off and just immerse ourselves into a state of calmness & we certainly got that!! The cottage was immaculately clean & the kitchen was fully equipped with everything you need for your stay.. I can't recommend this place enough.. I would recommend you go to a supermarket prior to arrival to stock up on groceries, even though technically you aren't that far away from a supermarket you kind of are in the middle of nowhere and I can guarantee that once you are there you'll not want to leave due to the sense of instant relaxation the moment you step into the cottage.. Jean & Claire are the most wonderful hosts & are prompt in responding to your messages.. We honestly can't recommend Thornthwaite Farm enough!! From the moment we made the reservation we were made to feel welcome.. We were contacted by Jean & Claire - which was a lovely personal touch and then we were messaged again to let us know that if there was anything we needed all we had to do was send a message and they would be happy to help us.. But I can say with confidence that you'll not have to get in touch due to Jean & Claire being attentive and having the cottage so well equipped & all eventualities covered.. Thank you Jean & Claire!! We will definitely be back!! Victoria & Gary..

This isn't something that we didn't like per say, but I think maybe an optional food hamper containing local produce would be a fabulous addition?
