Wonderful property with tranquil views and modern rooms

huge room, all rooms overlook a small lake, it was frozen during our stay but still a beautiful view- the room was modern, clean and appealing.

We went during an off season weekday, the lobby was locked. The owner let us in for check in but we went to return the key card and get a copy of our receipt for work (we were leaving around 7:30am) and no one came to the door.

Front desk was so accommodating. My daughter has wheelchair I booked room that wasn't accessible he was able to get me an accessible room. The rooms are always well stocked and very clean and the view is to die for been going here for a while have not had any bad experiences

I'd go back!

Location to Indiana Dunes was great! Waterbirds Inn lived up to its namesake--plenty of birds to be seen in and around the lake behind the building. It was nice to step out onto the patio and watch great blue herons, swans, gulls, and geese!

Only thing that could be better is the parking on the northside of the building. One row is perpendicular to the building, and the opposite row is angled--not great for an already narrow space.

Amazing, spacious rooms. Comfortanle bed and pillows!!! Also, the view to the lake ans being right on it is so relaxing. Very clean. I have literally no complaints.

Comfortable and a great location!

The view of Chubb Lake was excellent, and the small deck was perfect for relaxing on after a long day on the road. As a nature lover, being able to see geese, herons, egrets, and more right out my door was enchanting. The proximity to both Indiana Dunes and major highways is a HUGE plus. I also really appreciated the price point for the room size.

The decor is a bit dated, and the hotel could do with a refresh.

Loved the water view from the balcony and bring able to watch the geese and the turtles.

Definitely missed not having any type of breakfast even muffin, fruit, or cereal could’ve been an added touch. However there is McDonald’s and food nearby. Our room looked like it had recent updates but still needed some things done, the outside of property could’ve been cleaner from all the bird crap, Not having an elevator isn’t ideal but we are on 1st floor so didn’t affect us.

Great location. Could use some finishing touches

The location was literally on a lake and all the rooms had balconies overlooking it. The king room was nicely spaced and decently updated.

No breakfast, pool, or fitness room. There was a hallway window that was 2-paned and the outside layer was badly broken and it got really dirty between since it’s been neglected so long. There were some areas left over from a previous remodel that were left open to the hallway that had old furniture piled everywhere and were really messy or dirty. If the window were repaired and those messy areas were either cleaned up or hidden, it would make a big difference. One of those areas looks like it was intended to be a breakfast room. The other was the remains of a hallway bridge that used to connect to the adjacent hotel on the lake which obviously used to be part of the same property. (Still on the escape route signs on the back of the room doors.)

I loved the view of the lake from the upper balcony and the fact that it had a balcony. I liked that they didn't bother us one time while we were in the room...

I didn't like the fact that I had a special request that was not granted like booking.com said it was. They lied. I went to the hotel days in advance to make sure showed the letter from booking.com that said the request was to be fulfilled. And the waterbird said there is no way they could fulfill that. It would have ruined my marriage proposal. Had I not checked in advance. Thank you but no thank you booking.com you sick. But I also didn't like the fact that there was no breakfast and very few amenities that were included with the $150 a night room...I felt like I should have been reimbursed a part of what I paid because of this honestly...but nothing of the such was offered...

The pond and sunsets

The staff was never at the front desk had to go down to ask that our room be cleaned. There was no elevator so second floor gets stuck carrying all luggage up 2 sets of stairs. The add said there was a fitness center and pool and spa but yet they didn’t have any. You are better off paying the maybe $10 difference and stay at the best western and have a better experience

Our stay was a very Restful and beautiful event needed on a long trip.

We had a lovely, clean, comfortable room with a beautiful view of the lake. We enjoyed watching the geese, ducks and birds right off our porch. It was easily accessible from the main thruway and very economical for all the amenities. Thank you!

Decent Stay for Short Visits

The room was big, clean, and had a wonderful lake view. The bed was comfortable. The room came with a microwave and refrigerator. The lady at the check-in was very polite and found our reservation right away. The early check-out was easy after contacting staff over the phone. It was unclear where to place the room key upon leaving.

The room comes with a coffee maker; since it was located in the bathroom, we did not use it. The train passed every few minutes during the night, which made sleeping very difficult. I would bring earplugs.

Nice views and friendly people

Check-in was easy, the room was well-sized, and we had a lovely little balcony right over the lake. There was a wedding at the property the night we stayed and we could see the ceremony from the balcony. In the morning, lots of seagulls were out and about looking for a meal. The bed was comfy and the room had everything we needed.

The room was a bit outdated and some things needed some attention. Wished there could have been more pillows on the bed.

The hotel’s location is a short drive to the Indiana Dunes State Park, grocery store, and restaurants. .

The exterior thrash can located by the door we entered/exited during our stay were full when we checked in and were still full when we checked out two days later.
