    Staircase with extremely strong detergent/cleaning agent smell covering urine smell. Air in staircase was not circulating. “Room sharing person” had clothing on both beds. “Room sharing person” did not speak even though he was greeted. The cleaning staff was dragging a large hefty garbage bag down the 2nd floor hallway, it was leaking a liquid leaving a trail between 3-4 inches. No attempt was made to clean the floor at the time. Because of the narrowness of the hallway, this made it more uncomfortable. The webpage indicates that you can cancel without incurring a loss, but they denied it at the front desk. Entrance door to the building was in a state of disrepair, 3 broken glass panels, water damage, paint pealing and so forth.

    I initially booked for just one night, then booked another weeks later as I realized I need an extra day in NYC (total of 2 nights). As a result, I was assigned to two different rooms. On my first night, I was assigned room *** on the second floor. It was BAD. Dirty, roaches everywhere, AC unit very old & noisy, pillow was thin, and mattress with uneven softness. The bathroom was also outside, shared with other rooms, and not properly maintained. On the second night, I was assigned to room *** which was on the 5th floor. It was much better as it was cleaner, had an en-suite bathroom, and air conditioning seems newer. For both rooms, I had to share it with another guest, which is fine with me. Location-wise, it is only one block away from a subway station which is great. Overall, this hostel was very basic and your comfort will really depend on which room you will be assigned to. In addition, they will charge you $10/day if you wanted to leave your luggage with them on your check-out day. My flight was not until late in the evening and check out was at 11am. In my experience with other budget hotels, they allow you to leave your suitcase at the reception for free and just get it back when you're already going to the airport.

    Super old interior that looks never renovated for 200 years. I felt like I am in an Indian slum area not in the world's biggest and richest city. They don't provide bed sheets and are not even clean. The price can get you a hotel room if you add $15 to it. The toilet is old with no soap for shower after paying that high amount of money. Overall, if you want budget-friendly neat accommodations, I don't recommend it at all.
