Miyako Hotel Kyoto Hachijo

King size bed. Room to walk around bed. Room for bags. Good facilities in room. Excellent location for trains and buses. Walking distance of shrines and railway museum. Helpful friendly staff. Our room had views of the Shinkansens arriving and leaving.

Rooms are single glazed so some noise. Hearing trains was nice but some traffic was noisy if you are a light sleeper. I wear ear plugs so was fine.

The room was spacious and clean. The location was perfect for us - very close to the station and shopping mall. The breakfast was great, with lots of options.

The main issue we had was that we struggled to get hot water in the room. When it did work, it took some time to come through.

The location was great, very close to Kyoto Station. The rooms were big enough to open your suitcases. The TV screen was great.

As soon as I entered the room, there was a very strong odor of spices. The smell was so strong it made my group of 3 uncomfortable and nauseous. I gave the front desk a call about the strong odor and they simply said that we should use the mist spray in the room. With their guidance, we sprayed the whole room, opened the windows for a couple of minutes and we turned on the air purifier (which was orange indicating that the air was not clean). After 15-20 minutes, our group could not stand the strong odor, we go downstairs to the front and asked for a new room. They did give us a new room, however I felt like their excuses were unprofessional and it took an hour to get a new room (it only took an hour because I pushed to have this resolved asap). The front desk made excuses such as their front manager isn’t there right now, it’s busy because it’s a 3-day weekend and that the people before us staying in that room were of certain group that may have eaten in their room. I think my concern is the lack of cleaning. Why weren’t the room checked beforehand to ensure it is fully clean. No hotel room especially for this price and the additional accommodation fees that I paid should smell like that and the purifier should have been on or the room should have not been used until the strong odor was gone. Luckily the new room had no odor. The cherry on top is the next day we messaged the front desk because we thought we left a watch in the previous room. They didn’t find the watch but instead they found a white t shirt. We checked with the front if that was our shirt and it wasn’t. This reconfirmed the room wasn’t fully cleaned if there was a whole shirt left in there prior to us checking in.
