About this house rental

Summary:

Behind a white picket fence on iconic Rose Road, an 1890s Grey Lynn villa has been quietly reimagined. Heritage character at the street, resort-calibre living at the rear. Polished native timber floors, a waterfall marble kitchen island, two living spaces and two fireplaces. The garden is the showpiece: a heated salt-water pool framed by tropical planting, with an al fresco deck and built-in barbeque. Ponsonby a short stroll away. Three double bedrooms, sleeps six.

The Space:

Behind a white picket fence on iconic Rose Road, an 1890s villa has been quietly reimagined. The original bones remain, the proportions, the soaring ceilings, the heritage detail at the street, but in 2019 the home was effectively rebuilt from the inside out. Every surface, system and sightline has been considered. The result is a residence where nothing is asked twice of the day: heritage character at the front gate, resort-calibre living at the rear, and a sense of arrival that doesn't fade by the third morning.

This is a home for slow weekends and proper gatherings. For long lunches by the pool, dinners pulled together at the marble island, and quiet evenings by the fire. Ponsonby's restaurants, galleries and boutiques sit a short stroll away, but the temptation to stay home is real.

What we love is that this is a house built for spending the whole day at home and never wanting to leave. Coffee on the deck as the city wakes, lazy afternoons stretched out by the salt-water pool with tropical plantings rustling overhead, dinner pulled together at the marble island while someone tends the built-in barbeque, and a slow evening by the gas fire as the temperature drops. Two living spaces. Two fireplaces. A garden that does most of the talking.

The living spaces. Step past the picket fence and polished native timber floors run the length of the home. The open-plan living room is anchored by a sophisticated centrepiece kitchen and a striking waterfall marble island, the kind that ends up hosting half the evening on its own. Oversized doors slide back to dissolve the boundary between inside and out. A second, more intimate lounge sits to one side, gas fireplace lit and ready, for the cooler months and quieter mornings.

The kitchen. A modern kitchen built for entertaining. Marble surfaces, generous storage, and an island wide enough to gather the whole house around. Equipped to a standard that rewards both a quick local breakfast and an unhurried dinner at home.

The outdoors. The garden is the home's quiet showpiece. A heated salt-water pool sits at the centre, framed by established tropical planting that lends a year-round resort quality. The al fresco deck runs alongside, with a built-in barbeque and outdoor fireplace, made for long evenings under the Auckland sky.

The primary suite. The primary suite occupies its own wing at the rear of the home, set apart from the rest of the house for a true sense of retreat. Walk-through robe. Considered ensuite. Quiet, light and private.

The further bedrooms. Two further double bedrooms sit at the front of the home, alongside a beautifully appointed family bathroom. Each is dressed for proper rest, with the same restraint and quality as the rest of the residence.

Sleeping arrangements. Three double bedrooms. Sleeps six.

The detail. Polished native timber floors throughout. Waterfall marble kitchen island. Two living spaces. The Neighborhood:

Rose Road is Grey Lynn at its most quietly iconic. A tree-lined street of restored villas, white picket fences, and the slow rhythm of a residential pocket that has been getting better for a hundred years.

Ponsonby Road's restaurants, wine bars, boutiques and Ponsonby Central food hall are a short stroll away. Grey Lynn Park is at the end of the street. Cox's Bay and the harbour walks sit just beyond. Western Springs, Auckland Zoo and Eden Park are minutes by car, as is the CBD, the Wynyard Quarter waterfront, and the ferry terminal for day trips to Waiheke.

Getting Around:

Five minutes by car to the Auckland CBD and waterfront. Twenty-five minutes to Auckland International Airport. Secure off-street parking for up to three vehicles on site.

Other Things to Note:

Adults and families welcome. The heated salt-water pool is available year-round. The home is designed and finished to a premium specification, and we ask guests to treat it accordingly.

Interaction with Guests:

You will have everything you need for a private, self-directed stay. We are reachable throughout should anything come up, and otherwise we leave you to enjoy the home in peace.
