About this house rental
Bifold doors fold right back to bring the outdoors in, blurring the line between the living area and the balcony beyond, which is really where this place comes into its own. The view rolls out over the bay and further still to the mountain framing Hobart, and there's something about watching the water twinkle under full sun that's hard to describe until you're standing there with a coffee in hand. A BBQ and outdoor furniture make it just as suited to long evenings and alfresco dinners as it is to a quiet morning coffee.
The kitchen is fully equipped for real cooking, not just reheating, with locally ground coffee beans on hand for slow mornings before the day gets away from you. It opens straight into a cosy living space built for evenings in, where a wood heater takes the chill off and reverse-cycle air conditioning covers whatever the season throws at you, with a DVD player for the nights you'd rather stay curled up on the couch than head out.
Three bedrooms sleep the whole group comfortably. The master offers a queen bed and generous wardrobe space, the second bedroom a queen as well, and the third is set up with two single beds, ideal for kids or a couple of extra guests. Ample parking for up to three cars means arriving is easy, and those private stairs down to the beach are never more than a few steps from wherever you're standing.
Eggs and Bacon Bay is about an hour south of Hobart along the Channel Highway. Randalls Bay Beach is a short drive for a change of scenery, and the walk around Echo Sugarloaf State Reserve is worth the climb for the views back over the coast. For food, Port Cygnet Cannery in nearby Cygnet does good pizza in a waterfront setting, and Lovett Café is a solid option for coffee. Cygnet itself is worth a wander, with a few galleries and produce stores.
Further out, Hartz Mountains National Park has some of the best alpine walking in the south, and the Bruny Island ferry from Kettering is close enough for a day trip if you're after oysters and island scenery.
