A young neighbour complained directly to the host about noise at around 10 pm, and the host then contacted us about it. However, we were not having a party or making excessive noise; we were simply smoking in the garden, where an ashtray had been provided. After this, we felt uncomfortable and became paranoid about making any noise at all, to the point where we were practically whispering. The house rules were provided in a file inside the property, but the booking information did not clearly mention that guests were expected to keep noise to an extremely low level, almost as if they were in a library. This would have been useful to know before booking. Also, there was no dishwasher.
