Laguna de Valfría is much more than just a rural lodging: it is a unique retreat in the heart of nature, designed for those seeking to disconnect from the daily grind and enjoy an authentic experience in a privileged setting.
Located between Los Tojos and Fresneda, in the heart of the Saja-Besaya Nature Reserve, the estate is surrounded by a landscape of extraordinary beauty. Centuries-old forests of holly, oak, hazel, and beech trees envelop this mountain retreat, where silence, light, and nature mark the passage of time.
The winter house, with over 150 years of history and nearly 300 m² of floor space, stands high on the mountain atop a private estate of more than 25,000 m². Its privileged location offers sweeping views of the valley and a constant connection to the natural surroundings. The area continues to be used by local ranchers, so it is common to see animals grazing around the property, completing a serene scene deeply rooted in traditional rural life.
The building was renovated with careful respect for the original structure, which was formerly used to shelter livestock during the winter months. The feeding troughs, original proportions, stone, and hardwoods were preserved, while natural materials and contemporary solutions focused on sustainability and minimal environmental impact were integrated.
The home’s water comes from a natural spring, and all the electricity used is generated by a solar self-consumption system, in harmony with the surrounding environment.
The property features a circular pond about 18 meters in diameter, fed by water from the spring; it is shallow and serves as a natural swimming pool during the summer months.
With over two centuries of history, this winter retreat is today an ideal destination for lovers of eco-tourism, nature, and the outdoors.
