In the heart of the town, a historic market hall from the 17th century stands alongside a contemporary recreation facility with a pool. The Peak District National Park includes Bakewell, which is ideally situated for visiting this stunning area. Both the craggy Dark Peak and the gentler limestone White Peak are easily accessible, and Britain's top amusement park, Alton Towers, is only a short drive away. A few of the numerous stately homes to visit are Chatsworth House, Haddon Hall, and Hardwick Hall. Other attractions worth seeing are the magnificent caverns in nearby Castleton and Little John's burial site in Hathersage.
