This summer home in the most beautiful city of Crete has a rich history and charm!

History
Build by the Venetians about 500 years ago as part of a monastery right behind the old port, it was later used by the Turks as a residence. The Turks expand the smaller of the two rooms on the upper floor by a typical wooden oriel. Then 100 years ago, the Turkish inhabitants in this idyllic village atmosphere Splantsia district are replaced by Greek refugees from Smyrna (now Ismir). Our Greek-German family bought the house about 15 years ago in completely desolate condition. We lovingly modernized it and kept the original style, so that the charm of the house is still preserved today.
Equipment
The house has a living space of 70 square meters. On the ground floor a living/kitchen room with a fireplace and a bathroom with a washing machine and hot water boiler. Upstairs are two bedrooms with several single and double beds. Additional space for beds is integrated on the gallery on the upper part of the large bed room. Likewise upstairs the house has a inside patio covered with an vine arbor. The patio has an open shower and space for two more beds, mostly used by us for siesta. Finally the most beautiful room of the house is the courtyard right in front of the house. It is also covered by a vine and bouganvilla arbor. This idyllic courtyard you will leave only just for shopping or for a refreshing bath at the 150m distant city beach 'Koumkapi'.

This is a lovely 500-year old historic property in a very convenient location in Old town Chania. Walking to everything worked perfectly, including the Venetian harbor, lunch and breakfast in the square a few steps away, and dinner anywhere. Staying here is to take a step back in time. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The owner has a history of the house from the Venetians to the Turks to their Greek-German updating. Covered patio with privacy wall and gorgeous iron fence covered in bright Bougainvillea is perfect for morning coffee and evening wine.
Bedrooms were nice size and comfy beding. Located in one of the most historic areas of Old Town next to St. Nickolas Church. Every thing in Old Town is within 6 minutes walk, so perfect location for exploring, shopping, eating out, etc.I highly recommend this property. The managers are super friendly and helpful. They made the stay even nicer.

This property is clean orderly had great beds and bedding and is in an amazing old neighborhood. It is a bit tricky to find and mapping does not account for the intricacies of the one way streets. I would highly recommend cars rented to access it be small. In chilly weather when the outdoors area isn’t really useful the family area is small. Overall it is exactly as advertised.

The house is located within the old section of Chaniá where you can get some sense of what life might have been like in previous eras and still enjoy comfortable amenities of modern living. One can relax or read and have meals in a shaded outdoor space, a rarity for the neighborhood where there are many cafés but few green parks to relax. We were happy that Michalis shared his family place with us.
