About this house rental
A whole historic house for up to six guests, in the quiet heart of Chania's old town: 70 m² on two floors, two air-conditioned bedrooms, a vine-covered courtyard in front and an inner patio upstairs.
Perfect for families and groups of friends. The large bedroom has two double beds and a single bed, the second bedroom one double bed, and there is extra sleeping space on the gallery. On the ground floor you'll find the living room with kitchen and fireplace, and the bathroom.
History
Built by the Venetians about 500 years ago as part of a monastery right behind the old port, the house was later used by the Turks as a residence; they added the typical wooden oriel to the smaller upstairs room. A century ago, Greek refugees from Smyrna settled in the Splantzia quarter. Our Greek-German family bought the house in a desolate condition and lovingly restored it, keeping its original style, stone floors and charm.
Outdoor living
The most beautiful room of the house is the courtyard right in front of it, shaded by vine and bougainvillea. Upstairs, the inner patio under a vine arbor has an open-air shower and room for a siesta. Koum Kapi city beach and the Venetian harbour are only 150 m away, the village-like Splantzia Square with its tavernas just around the corner.

This is a lovely 500-year old historic property in a very convenient location in Old town Chania. Walking to everything worked perfectly, including the Venetian harbor, lunch and breakfast in the square a few steps away, and dinner anywhere. Staying here is to take a step back in time. Thank you for a wonderful stay!

The owner has a history of the house from the Venetians to the Turks to their Greek-German updating. Covered patio with privacy wall and gorgeous iron fence covered in bright Bougainvillea is perfect for morning coffee and evening wine.
Bedrooms were nice size and comfy beding. Located in one of the most historic areas of Old Town next to St. Nickolas Church. Every thing in Old Town is within 6 minutes walk, so perfect location for exploring, shopping, eating out, etc.I highly recommend this property. The managers are super friendly and helpful. They made the stay even nicer.

This property is clean orderly had great beds and bedding and is in an amazing old neighborhood. It is a bit tricky to find and mapping does not account for the intricacies of the one way streets. I would highly recommend cars rented to access it be small. In chilly weather when the outdoors area isn’t really useful the family area is small. Overall it is exactly as advertised.

Vier Monate nach der Buchung kontaktierte uns der Vermieter und teilte uns mit, dass das Haus zum geplanten Zeitpunkt doch nicht zur Verfügung steht, da es seine Mutter in dem Zeitraum bewohnen würde. Es wurden Alternativen vorgeschlagen, welche für 3 Personen wegen der Größe nicht in Frage kamen (Whg mit 1 Doppelbett). Nach ewigem hin-und her gab er nach und wir konnten doch ins Haus.
Kurz vor unserer Ankunft am Haus riefen wir, wie vereinbart, die Vertreterin des Vermieters vor Ort an. Diese teilte wiederum mit, dass am Haus eine Freundin von ihr uns empfangen wird. Der Empfang war jedoch sehr freundlich.
Das Ferienhaus wurde mit Parkplatz angeboten. Dies stimmte allerdings nicht. Wegen der guten Lage mitten in der Altstadt gestaltete sich die Parkplatzsuche täglich als neue Herausforderung - selbst mit Kleinstwagen ( VW Up!).
Kurz nach der Ankunft stellte sich schnell heraus, dass es sich um ein privates Haus handelte und nicht um ein Ferienhaus. Es befanden sich persönliche Gegenstände im ganzen Haus (Essen, Kinderfotos, Hygieneartikel im Bad,...).
Bereits in der 1. Nacht fanden wir heraus, dass die Kreter gerne feiern und das bis in die Morgenstunden. Für die sehr gute Lage muss man den Kompromiss eingehen, dass es auch mal lauter werden kann.
Was uns auch noch gestört hat, ist, dass die Mutter des Vermieters und deren Freunde öfter vorbei kamen ( innerhalb einer Woche insgesamt 4 mal), teilweise einfach die Tür öffneten und Gegenstände vorbei brachten bzw. abholten.
Das Bad hat uns persönlich nicht besonders gut gefallen (klein und unter der Treppe gelegen).
Aufgrund der Beschreibung bzw. vorausgehende Bewertungen hätten wir es uns anders vorgestellt.
