Tucked away in a peaceful hamlet beneath endless Charente skies and surrounded by vineyard views, this much-loved holiday home belongs to English owners with a passion for music, cooking, and the rhythms of French country life. That love is felt in every thoughtful detail.
The space
The House
This high-quality, private, and spacious farmhouse sits within its own enclosed walled garden, offering complete privacy and a true sense of retreat. Recently fully renovated, it has been carefully designed with families and couples in mind.
Built from warm, buttery Charente stone and framed by traditional maritime blue shutters, the house faces south — simply open the shutters and sunlight floods the rooms.
Inside, you'll find:
- Traditional blue shutters at the windows
- Beautiful Charentaise stone walls
- White-washed walls
- Exposed wooden beams throughout
- A feeling of relaxed, stylish simplicity
The interiors are elegant, blending comfort with character. Every space has been curated to feel welcoming and effortless.
Living, Made Easy
Whether you're enjoying long outdoor lunches in the garden under the sun sails, cooking with fresh local produce in the well equipped kitchen, or unwinding after a day exploring vineyards and countryside villages, the farmhouse is fully equipped with everything with you might need for a relaxed stay.
This is a home designed for:
- Slow mornings with coffee in the sun
- Shared evenings filled with good food and music
- Peaceful countryside walks
- Cozy retreats from the chaos of the city

Guest access
Guests have exclusive access to the entire farmhouse and its enclosed walled garden for the duration of their stay. The house is entirely yours to enjoy — indoors and out — offering complete privacy and space to relax.
You'll have full use of all living areas, bedrooms, kitchen facilities, and outdoor spaces. The property is self-contained, and there are no shared areas.
The property also comes with its own one acre field for you to enjoy - with kids or pets for kite flying, picnics or play.
For local rides there are a range of bikes available in the garage that guests are free to use – 3 adults bikes (men's), 3 adult bikes (ladies' or teenagers'), a child's bike and a tag-along.
More committed cyclists may wish to hire bikes from Bike-Hire-Direct who offer free delivery of bikes to L'Échappée Douce along with a range of support services. They get very busy in peak season only please book as early as possible.
Other things to note
The farmhouse is located in a peaceful rural hamlet. While this offers wonderful tranquility, a car is essential for exploring the surrounding countryside, vineyards, and local markets. season.
Mobile reception can vary depending on your provider, but excellent WiFi is available at the house.

We had a great two weeks at this lovely house. The weather was very hot but the garden had lots of shady areas. The house was very well equipped with everything you would ever need. Maria and Tony the housekeepers were extremely helpful. A great house in a lovely area

The house was beautifully presented, immaculate and very well equipped throughout. There were some nice personal touches such as wine & food left for us on arrival by Maria & Tony the housekeepers. They didn't disturb us but were at the other end of the phone should any issues arise.
The weather was fantastic so we didn't avail of the great games room but instead dined outside in the lovely walled garden and played rounders in the field out the back, the parking in the field was also a big plus.
The house was located right beside vineyards & sunflowers & was idyllic with lovely walks. Nére is a very short drive away with it's lovely boulangerie and it was a great base for travelling. Poitiers, Cognac, íle de Ré, Bordeaux, Niort, Saintes & La Rochelle are all within driving distance.
This property comes highly recommended.
