The history of the farm likely dates back to the time of the resettlement and clearing of the area, with the establishment of the Frondsberg domain and castle, which was built in the first half of the 13th century. Ulreich Ekchart In der Grub is first mentioned in the Montfort Urbar (around 1420). The farm’s history can be traced without gaps from the * 10.2.1772 * to the present day, beginning with the marriage of Jakob Schloffer—known locally as “Jagl in der Grub”—to Anna Stainer. The farm remained in the Schloffer family’s possession until the grandfather of the current owner, known locally as “Franzl in der Grub.”
The farm is situated in the middle of its 27-hectare property, and the steep, amphitheater-like terrain explains the estate’s local name, “In der Grub.”
In 1999, the house was rebuilt on the foundation walls and the old cellar vault of the former Rauchstubenhaus using traditional log-cabin construction techniques and incorporating existing structural elements; it now houses three apartments.
A fourth apartment is available in the “Kellerstöckl,” built on the cellar vault of a former wine press house.
On-site costs: The secluded location, surrounded by the estate’s meadows and forests, offers opportunities for walks and rest areas, to enjoy nature, and a playground free from the dangers of traffic—where children are also invited to explore as young naturalists, whether in the woods, in the meadows, or along our Falkenbach stream. Nevertheless, the farm—which is accessible via a paved private road, about one kilometer from the Weizer federal highway—offers good access to local amenities: restaurants and shopping in the nearby town of Anger, the outdoor swimming pool in Anger, the museum and the Rauchstubenhaus inn, the summer toboggan run in Koglhof, and more. The location also serves as a good starting point for reaching the Sommeralm and Teichalm via the pilgrimage site of Heilbrunn or for exploring the north face of Graz’s local mountain, the Schöckl. Last but not least, the Feistritztal Bike Trail runs through the valley, making Birkfeld, Anger, and Stubenberg am See easily accessible. • Garages and covered parking spaces available • Public electric charging station at GIZ Rosegg nearby • Barbecue facilities • Table tennis and other games, even in bad weather • Brochures about the area and a small library • Basic supplies in the refrigerator upon request If you have any questions or need further information, please feel free to contact us via email or text message. However, we ask for your patience, as we are a working farm; we will answer your questions as quickly as possible.
Check-in is from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00, and check-out is from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m.
