There was a smell.. drains I think, I think it was the building not just the apartment..

Amazing Madeira were really efficient and helpful. Sabrina met us at the property to hand over the keys and was very warm and welcoming. Cab pick up was also efficient (arranged by the host on request). Communications with our host were excellent. Questions regarding our booking were dealt with promptly and efficiently and Sabrina was very helpful. The appartment was lovely and spacious (there were 2 of us), kitchen facilities were great, beds were comfortable. It was all very clean. Double sink and good size powerful shower in bathroom. Location is excellent - in the heart of the old town, close to restaruants, local attractions (eg. cable car to gardens) supermarket etc. Close to the quay for whale watching tours. A good base for any activity including Levada walks. Great for Flower festival events that were on the week we stayed. Easy access to public transport (which we found to be pretty good). Nicely away from the comparatively sterile resort area of Funchal. Would definitely recommend.

It could be quite noisey at night due to seemingly random bin collections, sometimes after midnight!! Although the area is generally quiet at night, there were a couple of occasions I was woken by people passing-by talking in the street below. Improved double glazing would likely be beneficial. Someone in the vicinity (a neighboor maybe) seemed to like cooking curry and the smell often permeated our kitchen. There was nowhere in the shower cubicle itself to put toiletries other than the shower floor. It would have been great to have a small shelf or a hanging shower caddy of some sort just to make things easier.
