The staff were friendly, the food was great, and the location excellent.
We had an attic room which was fine for us but might not suit some.

The location was great. Staff were extremely helpful, polite and efficient.
Lunch and evening meal was great and really good value for money.
We had booked to bring 4 dogs with us, however in the end we didnt, the rooms we were in wouldnt have accommodated the dogs.
There was a lack of mirrors in both rooms, and nowhere to hang any clothes up. As we only stayed one night this wasnt a major issue, but for a longer stay may have been a problem.
Breakfast was basic, we didnt like the fact that we couldnt help ourselves to juice and there was no water available.
Tea and coffee were available but were luke warm and we had to ask for top ups, we would have preferred to have our own pots of both on the table.

This is a lovely pub with a cosy and lively feel. The food is excellent quality, clearly home made and great sized portions. The room was clean, comfy and a great sized shower and bathroom.
I am being nit-picky, but a few things grated. I wasn't expecting a 3 course meal as part of the "dinner, bed & breakfast", but just a main course I felt was not "dinner". Now the portions were generous and we might have struggled with a pudding, but it would have been nice to choose.
I had read previous reviews about there being a lack of hooks in the rooms. It's a particular bug bear of mine and when the owner (I think) asked a fellow guest at breakfast if their room was ok I heard the guest say that there could do with being hooks on the back of the door. Rather than saying, "Oh thanks I'll look into that", she said, "There's a hook in the bathroom and there's a rail by the bed" (5 coat-hangers on a very short rail). If you had come into the room in a soaking wet coat or two, neither of these options were suitable. There was nowhere for a shower pouffe, shower gel, shampoo etc, other than the floor of the shower. There was nowhere to plug in the hairdryer so that you could see into a mirror. I know these are not deal breakers, but it smacks of a place where the owners haven't really thought about how the guest might actually use the room.

Cosy pub, nice atmosphere, good beer and food, very reasonable cost, room small but comfortable.
Just a couple of very small things which could be easily put right - no coat hooks at all in the bedrooms so nowhere to hang damp coats etc. and no bedside table on one side. Very thin breakfast for vegetarians, no sausages or beans or hash browns, shouldn’t be hard to do that much.

We liked everything! Our dog particularly loved the real fireplaces. The bar area was cosy whilst the room had good facilities and was lovely and clean. The staff were all friendly and helpful. The surrounding area was beautiful!
There wasn’t anything we didn’t like.

Nice quiet location, country pub style with rooms. Room rate included bed breakfast and evening meal which represents good value.
Room was a little poorly furnished, very small without so much as a coat hanger. On arrival, the heating also wasn’t on.

The location is good for nearby attractions. Matlock and Matlock Bath are a short drive away for example. Lovely scenery from the hotel.
The Booking.com description says you get a “four star experience” and lots of positive reviews seem to support this. Sadly ours was nothing like four stars. The car park is badly lit and only some of it is tarmac. Check in is via a noisy busy bar full of men who you then have to navigate past with your bags up a side door to your room. Our room was ridiculously small. Like a cheap guest house in Blackpool. Certainly not four stars! Tiny TV in the corner, an equally tiny shower, a raging, hot radiator that you could not turn off, and the lights were either all on or all off. No cosy bedsides or reading lamps here! The mattress was thin, cheap and so uncomfortable. The included meal in the restaurant was also poor. No starters just a few typically pub grub mains. We ordered a “medium to well done” steak that was delivered pink, rubbery and tasteless, and a pie with mash but it came with chips. When it was swapped for mash it was clearly powdered. The food was barely warm. The included breakfast was better but by then we just wanted to leave. The last thing we wanted to do was criticise a community pub / hotel but it’s nowhere worth £150 per night.

This property was in a brilliant location for the Matlock Christmas Market. We also visited the waterfall in nearby. Lumsdale. The staff were really friendly and welcoming. The food was delicious. The rooms were really comfortable. We would definitely recommend it. 😊

The pub was warm and welcoming with a number of open log fires. There is 3/4 different sitting/eating areas.
Unfortunately there are no vegan options on the menu. The chef did make a basic vegetable chilli with rice.
I was pleased that the chef got me some vegan sausages for breakfast. I also had a large mushroom and some cherry tomatoes on the vine. No beans or hash browns. Not a ‘full’ breakfast.
I chose this pub as it has a historical past. Unfortunately there were no references to its past in the pub. I had to google it to find information, which was very interesting.

Very friendly and cosy. Good quality room with nice touches, very clean. Half board deal was good value, very good dinner and breakfast
Easy access to lovely walks
Very minor but some tea options in the room would be great, eg camomile.

Loved everything about it..we stayed in room 2 it was a very comfortable and spacious room, the bedding smelt very fresh and clean. The bed was comfortable and the shower was amazing. The food was excellent. The staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Nothing. (Maybe just somewhere to put shower gel etc) just a minor detail.

We chose this last minute and have been delighted. The staff are excellent, knowledgeable about the local area but most of all friendly &courteous. Lolly and her team have made it a very pleasurable stay. The cooked breakfast are the best we have had. In fact the food has been excellent. We had bed, breakfast and evening meal. This is a vibrant pub with lots going on. We will definitely be back. It was a good location for what we wanted to do. Walking. Sight seeing, shopping and chilling.

We had a very warm welcome at the Jug and Glass, from both staff and locals. This is a really cosy, traditional country pub. The food was excellent.
This is purely a recommendation, not a criticism - it would be really handy to have more hooks and a shelf in the bathroom, as there wasn't anywhere to put toiletries, hang robes etc.

What a lovely place! So welcoming, the staff are lovely, the food is delicious and the setting is peaceful.
Our room was room 5 on the top floor, and the bed was very comfy with a small ensuite which was perfectly functional.
We stayed here for the first time, and had visited before for drinks, but we will be back soon as the atmosphere is very friendly and relaxed.
Thanks to the whole team for making us feel so welcome.
