Beautiful view from our balcony

Was not the cleanest. The carpet in our room had a lot of stains, quite big ones too & the carpet wasn’t fitted properly . The corridors to the rooms look they they need refurbing, stains all over the carpet. Outside looked messy too, bin overflowing to the entrance of the rooms with balconies. Only went into the main hotel for checking in & out & for breakfast.

Balcony door difficult to lock and unlock think it just needs some WD40 on the lock maybe.

The location is good. The lido is excellent and the life guard is very pleasant and helpful. Lovely bathroom and quality toiletries.

The restaurant is understaffed. The wait to be served is lengthy. Food was good but the service was too slow. The bar had run out of cider, Guiness and ice. We waited 20+ minutes on arrival for someone to check us in. The cold water dispensers were both empty too. Little details are missing. No information in the room about menus, breakfast times and WiFi. We had to prop the windows open with water bottles. The lights were very dusty too. Our room never got serviced whilst we there so no clean towels. The amount we paid did not present good value.

We asked for an early check in and if there was any room upgrade for our anniversary but go no response. Had to wait 40 minutes for our room to be ready. We'd paid for access to the spa and so wasted that 40 minutes we'd paid for whilst waiting for the room to be ready. Walking from reception to the annex building where our room was, was like walking through a time warp. Awful building, horrid brown paint work, dirty windows, cracks up the walls, at least the room was ice and clean with a lovely bathroom. The spa, that was a experience. The steam room smelt of wet dog, disgusting. The sauna was manky with the door hanging off. The outdoor spa area was dirty, wiring exposed, cobwebs everywhere, cracking paintwork, just not a nice experience. Evening meal was OK, the table was sticky and when we asked to move tables, we were told they were all sticky and the waiter hoped the new owner would be changing them all. We had booked half board and were told there was a set amount to be allocated of what we ordered but he didn't know how much it was. We'd find out when we checked out!. Breakfast wasn't great, very dried up hot breakfast. So we left by 9am! Really needs a full overhaul and bringing all the separate sections together. It's a shame as the location near to Matlock Bath is great.
