The Open Arms Hotel

Hotel is in a lovely quiet village which I liked. A good bus service to either North Berwick or Edinburgh. Very comfortable room with comfortable armchairs and really nice to be able to open the doors out into a private garden. Large bathroom with excellent shower. My friend enjoyed having a bath. Lovely soft towels. I liked that we could adjust the heating to suit.

As a vegan and gluten free (I am coeliac)person breakfast was disappointing. I don’t take a cooked breakfast which is my choice but I had hoped for gluten free porridge and fruit. There was GF bread but no vegan spread to put on the toast. The staff very kindly rustled up some strawberries and a banana for me. I asked if they would have GF porridge and soya yogurt for the next morning however I had to wait until someone brought the porridge from a shop that morning and then cook it. No yogurt was brought. I just get the feeling that the hotel is skimping. For the price we paid I was expecting fruit at breakfast eg prunes, grapefruit etc. There was only two little packets of butter provided at the breakfast table - just as well my friend was with a vegan as she needed both for her toast. The website said toiletries provided - these were tiny little bottles that might be ok for one person for one night. We had to buy toiletries.

Friendly welcome on arrival. My room was spacious and comfortable with a good bathroom.

Tea and coffee were hidden in a cupboard and only a couple of teabags and coffee sachets provided. No biscuits, which was disappointing.

Old and elegant and the food was excellent

Breakfast and staff were very good.

For the price, the room was very small and not up to a great standard.
