Basic for the price

The staff on the floor were excellent. We couldn't work the coffee machine and the lovely house staff were really helpful. A really poor selection of tea for the size and design of the tea box. Room was ridiculously hot and we could not turn the radiator down.

Staff at breakfast kept forgetting to bring tea . We had to request a window table. Spa was beautiful but absolutely packed with locals . Some were hammering the sauna with olbas oil. Which is great in a council gym. But a 5 star hotel really..not what we expected

Love how the old meets the new. Can’t beat the location!

Not quite a 5* hotel in my opinion. Staff were amazing but definitely not a 5* experience if that is what you are expecting. Spa is a little grotty. Bar is extremely expensive also and breakfast quality varied each day.

Location was beautiful and convenient for our situation. Rooms were comfortable, and well equipped. Spa had a good sized pool, large jacuzzi, steam rooms and two saunas, all at a comfortable temperature. Staff were welcoming and helpful

There was a problem with the lift…. out of hotels control but a little inconvenient if on top floor. They did get someone in the look at it quickly though.

Lovely spacious hotel with fantastic views. All staff were very friendly and helpful, cleaning staff did a great job of servicing the room each day.

Bathrooms although very clean do need some updating. Drink prices in bar very expensive compared to other places + service charge added on top.

Wonderful view on the sea and an amazing hotel

Great location, wonderful view on the beach and sea. The lounge and bar are amazing!! The suite we’ve booked was wonderful. The spa is great. Good pool for swimming and wonderful sauna. Personal were very kind! Complete atmosphere of the hotel is an absolute 10!!

Terrible, we cut our trip short after first night as we were bitterly disappointed on what was on offer.

The location is the major selling point

This hotel is claiming to be 5 star would say it’s 3 star at best. Cheap fixtures and fittings. Very dated bathroom and general decor tired and cheap. Bar menu on line looks good in reality it’s not even a third of the advertised menu. The breakfast was like faulty towers, children trying their best with no supervision or help.

Breakfast was excellent. Great choice and lovely quality Very disappointed however in evening dinner choices in dining room and bar. Opted to eat out each evening after the first as nothing on menu appealed. We believe the menu is being changed which is good though not for us! Staff all great though particularly at reception

Loved the location, felt the hotel was too expensive as a lot of faults very obvious and make it look run down.

The sea view from our bedroom was spectacular and a lovely walk into town and a few moments from a lovely beach. Very comfortable bed. Staff were friendly. Night concierge was extremely helpful.

A lot of paintwork is now very badly needing redone. A lot of peeling paint in our bathroom. Holes in ceilings needing repair and painting after water damage. No plug near a mirror to dry hair in room, needed to move furniture. It all just felt very tired and not to the standard we were expecting.

The property is a heritage and well-preserved one with a fabulous location and outlook. It is evident that there has been investment especially in the common parts and spa/health centre

It is poorly managed. Chaotic service. Lots of people but not effective. Check-in was poor and led to unnecessary angst. Had the operator understood the hotel rooms we would have avoided the poor allocation of rooms

The staff were really friendly and very helpful indeed and the room was exceedingly comfortable . The spa facilities were excellent

the breakfasts in general were good but the dining room was exceedingly busy on Sunday morning and the staff were stretched thin. The full breakfast was a little on the small side , however the eggs with advocado was excellent .

Quality of breakfast food was poor for a 5 star hotel. Selection of breakfast fruit was poor and overall breakfast selection was not 5 star. All breakfast tableware was sub standard looked cheap for a 5 star hotel.

Great room with a view

Room with a sea view was very good! The room was comfortable and theen suite bathroom very spacious! I borrowed a hotel bicycle and helmet which was good!

I thought certain aspects of the breakfast were disappointing! The fresh fruit was reasonable as were the cereals! I chose scrambled egg with smoked salmon! The scrambled eggs were very poor as if they’d been cooked some time earlier! The brown and white bread for toasting were economy loaves and the unct bread did not appear to be totally fresh! All the pastries were shop/ supermarket quality Croissants,pain au raisin and pain N au chocolate all came from Tesco or Sainsbury ! They weren’t even heated up to give the impression of being made by a patisserie! Paying a large amount per night was my choice but I would expect a higher standard of breakfast ! There were a lot of American visitors whose exchange rates make coming to the U K more affordable ! I was not very impressed by the service ! In a hotel of that size there shoul be a head waiter overseeing everything!

A fine hotel with good facilities in an excellent location

It is a large old hotel which has been recently renovated to a high standard and is very popular with golfers. We chose a room with a sea view which provided a beautiful vista across the golf course and on to the Forth. The same view is also available in the lounge which is an ideal spot to relax with a drink. Breakfast was also excellent with a wide range of cooked to order options as well as a fine selection from the buffet. The staff were very friendly and helpful. The beach is only a few minutes walk away, the town centre is a very pleasant 20 minutes walk while the railway station is even closer. Buses to and from Edinburgh are about 8 minutes away by foot.
