TOMALCO INN NAKANO 2 3F Flat 2 Bath 13 min to Shinjuku from Honancho

Tomalco Inn suited us well. It is essentially 2 studio apartments with an adjoining door- 1 serves as the main bedroom and has an eating space, the other as a lounge/kitchen space or optional bed space. The kitchenette is small but well equipped with microwave, kettle, coffee maker, hot plates, air fryer and rice cooker, plus all crockery/cutlery and a small fridge/freezer. We were 3 adults, so with the lounge converted space is limited, but having 2 bathrooms is a great bonus. Having a washing machine and the ability to turn the bathroom into a drying cabinet was fabulous. It is in a quiet neighbourhood which suited us, but easy walk to 2 train stations, 7/11 and an area of restaurants and bars.

Just be aware that you do need to navigate a compact sets of stairs to the 3rd floor, so oversized luggage might be tricky.

Our stay was great. From the hospitality we were shown (thank you Hiromi and everyone for your kindness and help), to the location of the apartment and its facilities — everything was excellent. The apartment is very close to Honancho Station (about a 10–12 minute walk), which made it easy to get anywhere. Shinjuku is only about 13 minutes away by metro. The area around the station is also great if you feel tired after a day of exploring, as there are many restaurants nearby (tonkatsu, izakayas, Korean food, pizzerias, sushi), as well as one Lawson, two 7-Elevens, and one FamilyMart. There is also a great bakery right next to the station that I highly recommend, especially for their apple pies — it’s called Little Mermaid. The neighbourhood itself is quiet and pleasant, allowing you to feel immersed in everyday Japanese life. The accommodation itself was excellent. We had the option to cook if we wanted, two bathrooms (which were amazing — especially after a long day, as we could enjoy a hot bath), and a washing machine. Thanks to the drying function in the bathroom, doing laundry was quick and completely hassle-free. We had a bed, a couch that could be turned into a bed, and also a futon. Since there were only two of us, we didn’t use the couch, but we did try the futon — and wow. If you are curious about it, definitely give it a try. It’s surprisingly comfortable, warm, and cozy. Regarding hospitality — this was our third time in Japan, and we have stayed in multiple accommodations across different cities, so we already knew how great Japanese hospitality is. Still, we didn’t think we could be amazed any further, but we were. We were welcomed by Hiromi, who stayed in touch with us throughout our stay, making sure we had everything we needed. She also provided excellent recommendations for restaurants and places to explore, which was extremely helpful.
