In the heart of the city of Sedan, the botanical garden offers you a green stopover.
The hundred-year-old trees with exotic species, the lake, the kiosk are all elements to discover.
In 1875, the removal of the Bourbon bastion made it possible to ventilate the city by creating the Place Alsace-Lorraine and the botanical garden.
The plan of the garden was imagined in 1891 by René Richer, a landscape architect from Sedan.
From the end of the nineteenth century, the whole society met in the alleys of the garden to walk, dance the musette or listen to the brass band.
A very pretty statue of Paul and Virginie, made of terracotta, sculpted by Visseau, adorned the garden.
The sculptor had imagined a device allowing the umbrella to leave a perpetual runoff.
Unfortunately, the cyclone of 1905 broke the statue, which is still not restored to this day.
