    Hatsune was the perfect base for our first time in Kyoto. The room was clean and spacious with a great shower. The location is amazing — peaceful spot beside a beautiful canal, plenty of cafes and restaurants to discover within walking distance and close to the train station for exploring further afield. As a host, Kevin is the perfect balance of helpful and hands-off, which adds to the feeling of experiencing Kyoto like a local when you stay here. Would highly recommend Hatsune to anyone, don’t hesitate to book!

    there are 2 best things and 2 worst things about this stay. Best are the location and the host. It is situated in a beautiful and peaceful area with a tree lined canal. The host Kevin is outstanding in his willingness to help and make our stay comfortable. He was extremely kind and pleasant with quick reassuring communications throughout. at all times of the day. For all that we are very appreciative! But what made us not return are the rooms. Just be aware that the room advertised as " Garden View Terrace" actually faces the road outside so the passers by can look in. But Kevin kindly put up sheer day curtains for us for some privacy so that helped but it still means you dont really have a garden view. This room also suffers badly from the smell of food when guests heat up their food in the pantry which is situated right infront . Even with our doors shut. If youre a light sleeper you may not want to choose this room as it is directly next to the main front door where guests go in and out and often the alarm went off . Luckily its a smallish guest house and during our stay guests were not the noisiest bunch. Be mindful that the size of the room is v small so if you have 2 big suitcases there is hardly room for them. I wish the pantry area near the main door could be tidied up more. It is filled with a lot of stuff and clutter. So it isnt the most pretty sight when you step in to the guesthouse. All in all it was a pleasant stay in the end but could have been better if we didnt have to cope with the other issues.
