There is also an old fashioned cinema and The World of Beatrix Potter Attraction, which families with children will adore. The shores of Lake Windermere, which is the UK’s largest lake, is also within a 10-15 minute walk. From here, you can hire a boat or take a leisurely ride on one of the old steamers. The town of Windermere, which has a good sized supermarket, is approximately 1½ miles from Bowness. Windermere also has a train station with services to Kendal, Preston, Lancaster and Oxenholme. From Oxenholme, there are services to London, Manchester and Scotland, which makes this a very accessible location even for those who don’t want to bring their car. The surrounding fells offer plenty of walking, cycling and climbing opportunities, and thanks to the great road network, the whole of the stunning Lake District National Park is accessible, making Biskey Burrow the perfect base for your Lakeland adventure. Really comfortable stay was lovely and warm on arrival the cottage looked nice and clean inside after a day out walking mid December lovely to come back to a warm cosy atmosphere and a really hot shower with tremendous water pressure if you like that. Far bigger than it looks on the photos or from outside as we stayed opposite here before and always thought it would be small that is not the case. ideal location we could walk down to the lake in under 10 minutes with lots of eating and bars with in that distance Local coop and Tesco express only minutes away though we ate out most of the time only doing breakfast indoors. All the appliances you could wish for the hair dryer and curling tongs a bonus for my wife as we forgot her hairdryer. If I had to find fault the leaves out side the front door but as we know from British Rail leaves are expected at this time of year. May be a lick of paint on the front door but once you are tucked up inside you can’t see it. Would we stay here again You bet we would. Car parking in December not a problem my car was outside the window every night free parking on road too.

Well located on the edge of B-o-W, however, initial impressions when you arrive are somewhat unflattering as the front door area is shabby and not very chic and there are obviously pigeons nesting in the eaves who leave their detritus and other items lying around. The on street parking which has been mentioned in other reviews is undoubtedly an issue, however, parking in the Lake District is an issue. However, once inside the place is clean and tidy and has all the amenities that you might expect. We did not manage to get the television to work in the entire time we were there (not the greatest inconvenience but irritating) as there are an array of controls and no instructions that we could find, although there was one on how to assemble the kitchen units. Other reviewers have commented on comfortableness of the beds and certainly the basement bedroom one is the least comfortable. The other restriction not immediately apparent in the listing is the slope of the eaves in the upstairs bedrooms which slope sharply if you are taller than 5’ 5” you might either bang your head or stub your toe on the edge of the bed or maybe both. However, we enjoyed our stay.

Property was in an ideal location for us. Parking wasn’t ever an issue for us as long as you accept there may be a small walk involved. Cottage was lovely but could maybe do with a deeper clean and some TLC in places….bathroom door, downstairs toilet seat for example.
