About this cottage rental

This beautiful cottage is a listed building which retains many of its original features. Conservation is a priority and we use local craftsmen using traditional methods and materials to renovate this unique property.

It is set in the Lockeridge Dene (a dry valley), and is surrounded by fields full of Sarcen stones. In pre-historic times some of these stones were dragged 3 miles to make World Heritage Site, Avebury Stone Circle.

There are many other Neolithic sites to see in the area; West Kennet Long Barrow and Silbury Hill are among the best known locally. Stonehenge is about 25 miles away and an easy drive.

There is a bluebell woods just up the hill which is amazing in late spring, but beautiful anytime of the year. We are on the North Wessex Downs so it's great walking country. There is the National Cycle Route 45 a mile away, as well as good off road cycling. If you're not feeling energetic the cottage is very cosy and a great place to sleep, relax and rejuvenate. It has a beautiful English country garden with an guest area for you too use.

Marlborough is our nearest town about 3.5 miles away. It is a market town with a Waitrose and Tesco supermarket as well as great shops and restaurants including Rick Stein's Fish Restaurant, Indian and Italian restaurants. More locally there is the village pub which serves good food, or the Bell at Overton which is more of an Indian restaurant.

Marlborough hosts a music festivals in late July. There is also the Marlborough Summer School in July and August with a vast array of courses and Children's Activities.

Fabulous cottage. Very large rooms, considering age of property. Beautifully clean, comfy beds with crisp, white bedding.Bathroom has stand-alone shower which is powerful, as well as a bath with shower attachment (we did not use this). Kitchen is as described. We didn't need anything extra, but it is worth saying that there is no microwave or air fryer, if these are important to you.Check-in is very easy - turn up and go in. This is not a high crime area. The property may be a little difficult to find in the dark, however, as Google maps wanted to take us quite a way away, and what3words tells you to stop on the main road and walk across a field(!). When booked, I recommend viewing the maps and dropping a pin - ignore where Google wants to send you. Also note that although wifi is excellent inside the property, there is no signal outside at all, so you may not be able to call the owner if you get stuck.Nice pub 5 mins walk away in the village which does food. Avebury and Lacock are really easy to get to for sight seeing, and Malborough is really close for some shopping / cafe culture.

Jessica was the perfect host! Very friendly and accommodating. Property is magical: gorgeous gardens and certainly an old world feel! Best feature in my opinion is the cozy wood-burning fireplace. Beware that two of the bedrooms are upstairs and can be accessed only by a narrow staircase. The beds are comfy and plenty of outlets for charging devices. One thing about the location is that there are minimal transport options if you don’t have a car of your own. If not then you have only a few buses a day (none on Sunday’s) to get to the downtown Marlborough area for shopping or dinner out. otherwise it’s a great stay!!!

We wanted a quiet, rural retreat in a character cottage and this place totally delivered. It may not be for everyone, but we knew what we were getting when we came. The house was built in 1710. The cottage, with its thatched roof has all the character you could ask for. The kitchen and bathroom are modern, well equipped and the sitting area is comfortable. There's a spacious downstairs bedroom that was has been added with two large bedrooms upstairs. The beds are very comfortable. We enjoyed the wood stove on cool evenings and the connectivity and video options. There is no cell service. Lockeridge is an attractive, friendly little village with a good pub. It is only 4 miles from Marlborough, which is a delightful old market town with many eating and shopping options. Just a couple of things to know going in: the ceilings in the kitchen and sitting area and the doorways are what you would expect when it was built. In other words, my head touched the ceiling and I had to duck under the beams and doorways. (I'm 6'2") Also, the stairs to the bedrooms on the first floor are treacherous - narrow treads, with a curve at the bottom, and the risers are exceptionally high. They are not for anyone with mobility issues. Our host was friendly and helpful. Wiltshire is beautiful with rounded ridges offering views and islands of woodland between the pastures. Lots of historical properties and gardens to explore. If this is what you are looking for, we recommend it!

This house was absolutely amazing!!! There was enough room for our whole family of five and everything was very clean. The location was a dream and the village of Lockeridge was so picturesque.. Jessica was on top of everything and was a wonderful host. I highly recommend this cottage for a perfect vacation or quick get away.
