Villa Sardini is a stunning property overlooking the town of Lucca with beautiful grounds, swimming pool, and apartments. A few additions to the kitchen supplies would have made it a 5-star rated experience. All our dealings with the management were pleasant and informative. Hope to be back!

We booked a fortnight's stay in the Ludovico apartment at Villa Sardini after a lengthy search for a property that met a number of important requirements. These included the need to be within easy reach of Pisa airport as my daughter and partner were only able to join us for the second of the two weeks. We also wanted a reasonable sized swimming pool, proximity to a town and local shops but a rural setting. Villa Sardini delivered in all respects. The apartment was spotlessly clean and was one of several but still provided privacy. The generous grounds offered spectacular views of the Tuscan hills and included a large pool area with an ample supply of related 'furniture'. During our stay we had the pool entirely to ourselves for the second week. One particular advantage of the location was the breeze that provided relief from the high temperatures that were experienced during the first week. The historic and attractive city of Lucca was a short car / motor cycle / bicycle journey away and offered a good choice of shops, restaurants and points of interest. Nearby San Alessio has a small but excellent supermarket for those who prefer to self-cater. Francesca was an accommodating hostess and, as others have said, was on hand every day to provide suggestions, advice and some interesting background information on the origins of the villa. Overall, we would recommend Villa Sardini to anyone looking for high quality accommodation in a rural setting but with good links to both the main 'tourist attractions' and the smaller mountain villages of Tuscany.

Villa Sardini was simply incredible. We stayed in the Giacomo apartment, two couples sharing. Francesca met us at the villa after having giving helpful directions through a somewhat confusing countryside. She had helpful notes on everything from grocery stores to restaurants and sites to see in the area. The apartment was impeccable and well equipped with everything we needed. We had forgotten swim towels and she kindly loaned us some for the week. The grounds were lovely with many corners to sit and dine outside; the pool to die for and clean and organized - groups of deck chairs organized by apartment so everyone had seats. Great views of the Tuscan hills from everywhere we went. Francesca and Antoine were also exceptional hosts, organizing a wine tasting and visit to the chapel on the property while we were there. We loved their wines, buying a couple of bottles of Lippo for the week. The villa is a 15-20 minute drive to Lucca's walls. The roads to the villa are very narrow with many blind turns but you get used to it - by the end I think we were driving like locals. Lucca itself is a charming town and a great base for exploring Tuscany. We've been a number of times before and will return again, and certainly back to Villa Sardini.

Collection of 6 modern apartments in a fairly recent refurb. Set in the hills to the North of Lucca. Routes down are somewhat tight and twisty but very picturesque snaking through forests and then vineyards. The apartments face south overlooking a lawn with views down the valley. Felt very secure and safe for my 4 year old to run around freely. Further gated area protects a lovely pool area which was very clean and modern. Also enjoyed the wine and olive oil tasting that took place on day 1. Two nearby restaurants are about 10-15 mins walk. We drove. Otherwise you'll need to go down to to Santa Alessio village for shops, restaurants etc. Would recommend this place to anyone looking for a tuscan mountain getaway.

Upon driving up to this stunning restored farmhouse I realised how beautiful the house and location was. This place is stunning. Francesca the owner has clearly worked hard to retain the original beauty of this property. We stayed in apt. Domenico. Rooms were large and airy and tastefully furnished. Windows opened up to the beautiful garden outside. It was incredibly peaceful and quiet. Lucca was a 15 minute drive away but amenities could be found within a 6-7 minute drive. For me the best feature was the pool! New, clean, modern and beautifully done, the pictures on the website do not do it justice! Thank you Francesca and Antoine, I can only hope to return again with my family X

We had a fantastic stay at Francesca and Alessandro's property. We had a number of moving parts when our family of five (including our six month old) flew in from the U.S. We were a bit uncertain as to what we were getting into trying to find a villa in the hillsides at night. Francesca was an excellent host. Despite our late arrival she made sure we knew where to go and offered to not only call the local restaurant down the road to see if they would stay open but also offered to leave food from her own pantry so that we would have something in the morning. The villas were perfect with a kitchen for small meals and air conditioning. The open space and pool were a nice break during the peak times of day ...I highly highly recommend a pool if you are traveling with kids as it provides a great mental break for them. With a few other villas on the property we were able to make friends with another family and our kids played on the open grass at night. The location is great. It is remote and super quiet but convenient not only for getting in and out of Lucca but also for day trips everywhere if you have a car. Lucca was a fantastic city to use as a home base as it was nearby and less crowded but equally beautiful. Bike rides along the wall were great too. We made day trips as far north as Cinque Terra, (partly by train obviously), as far east as Florence and as far south as Sienna. Also with kids we opted for two beach days in between, of which Viareggio was great and extremely convenient. Lastly, while we were there there was a heat wave through all of eastern europe. Originally we had planned to stay for five days and then move on to another house south of Florence. The house south of Florence had only one room with air conditioning and was unfortunately unbearable as temperatures were getting north of 100 F. We called Francesca to see if we could possibly come back and she welcomed us with open arms. We were relieved to be back where we were comfortable. I highly recommend staying here and can't say enough about how great the owners are. Excellent option for a small family.

The location is excellent, in the hills above Lucca - 5-10 mins from Lucca. The apartment we stayed in was very spacious and comfortable. The hosts were fantastic, friendly and helpful. They organised a wine tasting on one evening which was really good. The pool is superb - very big. Overall we would highly recommend.
