The Steading

Beautiful location, lovely outside space. Everything pristine and very tastefully decorated.

The only thing that would make it all 5 star would be the check in and out times. 4pm check in with a 10am check out is very tight. 3pm and 11am would be much better. I understand the need for a gap for cleaning, but 6 hours is excessive. And considering it is so rural there is nowhere to go and pass the time if it’s too early to check in.

Check in from 2/3pm instead of 4pm would be more reasonable

It was spotless

Disappointing. Messaged before the arrival and didn’t receive a reply. On arrival we discovered we weren’t actually staying in the Steading but another timber building to the side of it. It was a small building called “the loft” it was lovely and clean but once we sat down and went to make dinner we quickly realised that the “well equipped kitchenette” was anything but, it consisted a kettle, toaster and microwave. We had booked to stay because we were part of an event taking place in the local area and had packed all the ingredients for a pasta dinner the night before and a steak dinner with all the trimming the night after the event. This therefore meant dinner was out the window and we had to go to the local town and get a take away. Not ideal when we had already spent a fortune on our weekend away and hadn’t planned for this plus both myself and partner enjoy cooking and this was supposed to be a nice part of our weekend. We had taken a bbq with us so we decided after the event we would make use of the outside fire pit area and seating area and would do the bbq with the steaks. Unfortunately the owners told us we weren’t allowed to bbq not only this but the fire pit is only available at the other building “the Steading” the one I thought we’d booked online. I did ask if they had a gas burner or camping stove, anything we could use to make a meal because the kitchen was so basic we literally couldn’t cook any of what we bought. Their suggestion was that we drive to the beach and have the bbq there. Not ideal because that meant one of us would be driving and we wouldn’t be able to have the nice meal and drinks we had planned so instead we had the left overs from the take out from the night before. Not going to lie, at this point I was beyond disappointed, at the cost of the place I would have thought I’d have been able to cook a nice/basic meal for myself not have to eat out for lunch and dinner.
