A really lovely location and comfortable stay. The food was excellent and the staff were very kind and welcoming
Really basic things can be fixed that do make a big difference. For example
- only one towel each provided in the rooms, not optimal for a woman
- very cold rooms during the day (and no way to adjust the temp)
- not very noise proof rooms
- tiny car park making it either impossible to park or a squeeze getting in and out

The setting was stunning and the hotel was beautiful inside and outside very clean and comfortable . Food was exceptional and the staff were extremely professional and helpful.

The location and the building itself are beautiful. The ancient yew in the churchyard next door and the standing stones in the beautiful village are very special. We received a warm welcome and the receptionist changed our room to a larger one to accommodate our dogs which was very thoughtful. The reception staff and the housekeeper were lovely. It’s been beautifully and tastefully refurbished with the exception of the bar.
We couldn’t take our dogs in the sitting room which is understandable but the only other place to sit was the rather dowdy and draughty bar with uncomfortable seating and staff who had to be summoned by bell. We were given the worst table in the restaurant for 1 dinner and 2 breakfasts of our 2 night stay, next to the kitchen door with the paint peeling off which swung open and shut frequently and noisily and with a view of the junk behind the bar. In spite of the restaurant being almost empty on both mornings, our polite request to move tables was refused. Perhaps this is what you get for £270 per night but if you have to pay for a more expensive room to get a better table this should be made clear. The three courses of our dinner were OK but came very quickly and did not look or taste individually chef cooked. This suspicion was increased when we saw the Brakes Brothers lorry arrive the next morning.
