In one of New Orleans' oldest residential neighborhoods, blocks from Tulane and Loyola Universities, Carrollton was laid out in 1833 and annexed to New Orleans in 1874. Besides being in a safe part of town and in one of city's few non-flood zones, it is walking distance to St. Charles (Garden District, French Quarter) and Carrollton (Fairgriounds/Jazzfest) Street car lines and all major bus lines. Two local neighborhoods, Maple St. and Oak St., offer shops, restaurants, bars, and clubs nearby.and all hospitals are 1-4 miles from the house. Audobon Park and the Mississippi River are less than 2 miles away.

The street is lined with a canopy of 200 yr. old Live Oak trees and the house and patio garden are well-shaded.
