Kleurrijke retro contructam caravan vlakbij het Sneekermeer

Pros Location of caravan on the site. It provided shelter from sun and wind when needed. Also had its own water tap (huge bonus). It had privacy with its own hedges either side. Location of site provided really good cycling opportunities (we had a tandem and cycled 7 different routes in 7 consecutive days). Toilet block is very clean. Laid back atmosphere of site. Site had communal inside and outside seating area. Communal fridges x 2 available, which we used. Jan (the owner) is friendly, approachable and considerate (provided ice lollies during heat wave). Good views from the caravan. Great sunsets (from the private rear seating area). Seating at the front and the back of the caravan, which provided choice, provided sun and avoided wind. Kettle, coffee maker (with small ceramic coffee cups), sink, plug in electric 2 ring hotplate and small (caravan) fridge. Also mosquito net which was excellent.

Cons Vintage caravan means old caravan. It means that cupboards don’t open properly as hinges are worn and you must be gentle closing them. No toilet in caravan (treat as if you are tenting). Bed sinks in the middle (the cushions are worn). Curtain fittings are fragile (the clip mechanisms require a gentle touch). Window opening mechanisms are fragile (as above). Plastic glasses, plates and cups (any plastic glasses, plates or cups are underwhelming whatever the setting). We stayed for over a week so it was challenging to find space for all the things we brought. BUT, if you approach this as a camping (ie tent) holiday, it is excellent. Just remember to bring things that are important to you. We brought our own camping toilet, glass tumblers for beer, wine and tea, and our own knives. Bring camping chairs and accessories (parasol, foot stools etc). But if you are only staying for one or two nights there is more than enough.

Leuke ligging op ruime weide. Goede uitvalsbasis voor fietstochten in de prachtige omgeving. Toffe ervaring om eens te logeren zoals mijn grootouders het indertijd deden. Niet te missen retro/vintage ervaring. Groot en goed bed. Age is een toffe gastheer die de tijd neemt voor zijn gasten. Het sanitair is helemaal niet retro maar modern, nieuw en zeer mooi onderhouden.

Eigenlijk niets. Je weet wat je boekt. Wel opgelet voor de muggen. De caravan wordt overdag bij hoge temperaturen (het was 37 graden) wel heel warm, maar met goed verluchten (alles open) was het 's avonds heel goed te doen. Muggenapparaatje doet nadien wel wonderen. En dit in combinatie met de aanwezige klamboe heerlijk geslapen.

Top Lage, sehr gepflegt. Alles sauber und mehr wie nette Besitzer.

The facilities (toilets, camping site) are beautiful and well kept, clean and new. The garden and farm are calm and peaceful, with sounds of birds, cows, ducks, etc. A nice natural escape. The owners are kind and understanding and reacted promptly to our complaints (see below) offering a partial refund as we left the property earlier due to the caravan conditions.

The "retro caravan" quality and conditions (the actual "room" where you stay) DO NOT MATCH the price paid for a night (around 85 eur in our case). In the property photos it seems the caravans are upgraded and can provide sufficient comfort for this price, but the one we slept in (orange one) was not prepared for this. Firstly, it was infested with mosquitoes (the owners knew about this and told us when we arrived, but did not make the effort to remove them from the caravan as they presented it to us). We spent 1h killing over 20 mosquitoes in the 5sqm (my photo attached of around 12 dead mosquitos). During the first night, it rained -as usual in NL-, and there was a leak INSIDE the caravan to our sleeping area, so water was on top of my mattress (my photo attached with the leak). To add to this, the mattress is very bad quality, sinking with your weight. Even though a "retro" look is cool, it does not mean that certain objects should not be updated. An effort to upgrade the INSIDE (reupholstery of couches, change of 70s curtains, better mattress) and insultation of the caravan is needed to charge this price. We hope the kind owners will consider this to improve their offer.
