The owners were a lovely couple very welcoming and certainly obliging, however you wouldn't have wanted to disturb them at 11pm when you found you were getting cold and there wasn't an electric blanket on the bed.

The Views Where Amazing Wifi Connection Inconsistent Bathroom And Kitchen Ok A Little Dated In Decor Not What We Expected For The Price Reception Was Welcoming

Stayed here for 2 nights towards the end of our North Island tour. Check in was smooth. Both Norm and his wife are genuinely nice people and very warm, welcoming and helpful. Unfortunately, we had one of the two rooms that don't have a view (totally our choice tho). We were informed that the internet had been down for a couple of weeks - not just at the hotel but many other hotels in the area. Our room (pool view) was spacious but was definitely showing some age. The carpet is old and stained. Curtains frayed in a couple of places. We were disappointed to find a couple of spider webs (not very recent) and informed Norm later (so he could speak to the cleaning crew) and he was a bit surprised as well. Shelagh was really nice - she recommended restaurants to us and also volunteered to book a trip to Cape Reinga which turned out to be a good idea. It would have been nice if we had been informed about the Wi-Fi in advance of our stay. And perhaps offered an upgrade or a different room since more than 50% of the units were available at the time even if they charged us extra. There is no AC but there is a standing fan in the room. Location is good - 5 mins to the center of the town - restaurants, groceries etc. Overall it was a decent stay but it wouldn't be fair to say it was Excellent. We stayed at more than 10 motels in NZ and this one didn't hold up its end of the bargain based on price point and other reviews.

We enjoyed our stay at Cooks Lookout. What a beautiful location, and very friendly hosts. They were so thoughtful and helpful with their suggestions and ideas for what to do and see in the area.

We sat for hours every day and enjoyed the magnificent views from our private and secluded terrace. It was very quiet at night and our room was spacious and fully equipped. The hosts were very kind and had tons of colourful stories to tell! Perfect stay for us and we decided to extend stay one more night than we had originally planned for. This is where we will return when we come back to New Zealnd and the Bay of Islands in the future. By the way, the hosts have a huge DVD library of films that they lend out. We don't usually watch TV but after completing the Tongariro Alpine Crossing two days prior to our stay we decided to watch one of the films from the Lord of the Rings trilogy.

This was undoubtedly the best accommodation we had during our 2 weeks tour of the North Island travelling as a family of 5. Everything was just superb. Every day we were grateful that we chose this place out of many possibilities in Paihia. The view is literally breath-taking and the owners were extremely helpful and eager to make us feel welcome.

Our stay of four days was so memorable and our only regret was that it wasn't longer. We have stayed at numerous 5 star rated places in our lifetime but none of them provide the relaxed comfort and welcoming atmosphere provided by our hosts Norm and Shelagh. Their constant interest and advises in our planned stay in the area ensured that we missed nothing and nothing was ever too much trouble. Thank you both so much for everything

We chose this hotel because of the view and were not disappointed. Even when the weather was poor, we could enjoy the sights from the room and could get the best of the rainbows!
