About this apartment rental

The Space:
A Historic Landmark with Modern Luxuries
From 1912 to 1977, Louise Hand Laundry was trusted with the most delicate garments of DC’s elite, including four White House administrations from FDR to JFK and even the Smithsonian Institution. Now, this building offers a luxurious living experience with a seamless blend of modern elegance and historical charm.

Founded by Margaret Nicodemus in 1912, Louise Hand Laundry quickly rose to prominence for its meticulous hand-washing techniques, making it an essential service for DC’s elite and government offices. In 1943, Beulah Hall took over, solidifying its status as the city’s premier hand laundry. Hall’s attention to detail attracted high-profile clients, including the Smithsonian’s 17th- and 18th-century garments and a collection of JFK’s shirts awaiting pickup when he was tragically assassinated. Converted in the 1980s by architect Robert Lewis and artist Sanford Shapiro, the building’s open, loft-like design was preserved, adding unique touches such as exposed brick, glass blocks, and airy living spaces that remain a testament to its rich history.

Features You'll Love

**Three Tasteful Bedrooms + Queen Sleeper Sofa from luxury furniture maker Poly & Bark: Each room is tastefully decorated, featuring plush bedding and vintage-inspired touches, perfect for groups or families.

**Two Off-Street Parking Spaces: Enjoy the convenience of two private parking spots, right in the front driveway - a rare amenity in central DC.

Spacious hang out areas, cool layout. The kitchen is fine as a kitchenette but too small for cooking a real meal. The neighbors were partying loudly one out of four nights but shut it down at 10 and duds not disturb our sleep. There were several nice touches like coffee press and kurig with pods, shower supplies, ear plugs, white noise machines by each bed, and very simple exit instructions. Note:NOT mobility accessible. A lot of stairs.
