The Coachhouse, East Budleigh , Sleeps 4

A surprisingly large cottage / ground floor apartment. Very well presented, freshly decorated and very modern - especially the superb kitchen and bathroom. Beds were very comfortable and plenty of space in the lounge and dining areas to relax. Clearly no expense spared to provide a fully furnished apartment with pretty much every need catered for. Also the views out were amazing. Fantastic countryside setting. We were also blown away that the cottage was within the grounds of the large stately home - Syon House. Parking in the courtyard was great for me being the car proud person I am. So no stress about leaving it somewhere it might get clobbered etc. Definitely great value for what you get here.

So whilst I really liked the cottage it did have a few niggles that you should be aware of. The bedroom nearest the lounge has a dodgy door handle. I actually got trapped inside as the handle wasn’t turning the latch. That wasn’t fun with a full bladder. Towards the end of our stay a second couple moved in above. The first couple were fine (although you can hear footsteps quite loud) but the second couple with a small child were a nightmare. The lad woke up around 6am and was running and jumping. The woman got up and decided to stick the washing machine on. It was so loud she woke us up and my partner had to go and ask her to please keep the noise down. A disappointing end to our break with a long drive home tired. We did have a slight issue initially finding the place. I ended up heading to the wrong “CoachHouse” which was up a dirt track lane. Sounds like we weren’t the only ones as an elderly couple apparently spent 2 hours trying to find the place - to view for their daughter’s potential stay there.

The apartment has been modernised, decorated and furnished to a very good standard. The cleanliness was excellent and there were plenty of towels for our use. There were also ample supplies of such things as loo paper and other cleaning products. Prior to our stay we were a little concerned about the possibility of being disturbed by noise from the first floor apartment but I am happy to say that during our stay we experienced no noise. To the rear of the apartment there is a garden area with a table\seating and being able to sit and read in a shaded spot was very much appreciated during the heatwave conditions experienced during our stay.

The view from the living room is not terribly attractive as it overlooks a yard area. However the floor to ceiling windows\doors are fitted with net curtains and this ameliorates the problem. Unfortunately we did not find any information in the apartment regarding what we were expected to do upon vacating the property at the end of our stay and only discovered on our return home that an email had been sent requesting that we strip the beds and bag-up rubbish. Prior to our stay we had advised the agents that we would not have access to emails while we were away and therefore we can only apologise to the owner and\or the cleaner that we did not do what was apparently required.

It was clean, very comfortable, beautifully furnished and mostly very quiet. Beautifully located in spacious grounds. No road noise .
