The Maxwell Luxury Hotel is not luxury hotel. In its earlier days, this might have been the case, but it is far from it now. The hotel is suffering from neglect in several areas, but the overall stay was ok once you accepted the limitations and the very basic experience it is.
Good points first: The rooms are large and have an old charm feel. The beds were good enough to get a sleep, but the hotel could invest in mattress protectors and better linen and pillows - a small investment to improve the experience for guests.
The bad: (1) check in. The hotel is self-check in and you rock up to find nobody there to greet you. You call the number on the desk and they will tell what rooms has been made up for your arrival. (2) There is no lift to the upper floors - so, should you be disabled or lacking mobility, you had better book the bottom floor (if available). (3) There is no WIFI thoughout, despite Agoda stating on their site that the hotel had free wifi!!! Linen smelt 'musty', which required me to wash and dry the linen at the local laundry. (4) The room was not serviced properly prior to our arrival, with many areas having dust and cobwebs. This was addressed by a phone call to the 'mysterious' hotel manager, who then tasked a 'live-in' bat-boy to come and clean the room. The young man from Indonesia was attentive once he was tasked and I felt sorry for him, in that he was unsupported by an appropriate hotel management structure in place. Essentially, he was being used to do odd jobs as required, but lacked training in hospitality. I could rattle on, but its not necessary. The hotel is good for a traveller wishing a basic experience. This hotel is not suited for somebody who wants a hotel with in-person check-in, a concierge, and housekeeping.

arrived late in the evening finding out it’s self checked-in, not an issue but staff attitude is bad. waited for sometimes outside hotel lobby (inside no aircond very warm) with lots of mosquitoes, pic asked us to cancel booking if can’t wait. end up saw some guests walking out with luggages (seems just checking out) then was then told room is being making up for us, lol seems that the guests are staying in the room we booked & just to leave the room for us? end up the room is old & bathroom hygiene is not as expected. location is good indeed, at city area. i would not recommend this place with such charges👎🏻
