Discover the charm and comfort of Karkalla Terrace, an inviting retreat named after the native Karkalla plant, also known as Pigface. This plant, cherished by Aboriginal Australians for centuries as both food and medicine, flourishes throughout the grounds, symbolising the rich history of the house and the area. Karkalla Terrace offers a warm and welcoming base for couples, families, or small groups, blending modern amenities with historical significance.

The experience begins on the ground floor with a broad veranda that offers breathtaking views of Kunanyi (Mt Wellington). Step inside to a cosy living room, complete with a smart TV, an electric heater, and a collection of games, books, and toys. The inviting couch folds out into a double bed, transforming the space into a private third bedroom when needed.

The open-plan kitchen and dining area are designed to create memorable culinary experiences. Equipped with everything you need to prepare cosy meals, the kitchen opens to a rear courtyard adorned with a striking historic hand-built sandstone wall. This unique private space includes an outdoor BBQ with a full gas bottle, a handcrafted wooden and iron dining table, and a coffee table. Outdoor cushions and blankets are readily available from the storage container, enhancing your comfort as you dine al fresco. The grounds of Karkalla Terrace are designed for relaxation and retreat, featuring edible, flowering, and water plants. An iron staircase leads to a large native garden with a covered deck area, ideal for enjoying a peaceful cup of tea in nature.

Ascend to the upper level to find the primary bedroom, a spacious sanctuary featuring a handmade celery pine four-post bed with views of the lush gardens. This room also includes a study nook with a desk, perfect for those needing a quiet space to work. The second bedroom offers a Tasmanian oak double bed, an additional fold-out futon for one, and views of the elm trees and neighbourhood. The living room also offers a sofa bed set up upon request, sleeping one additional guest. The large bathroom on this level is well-appointed with a shower over the bath, a washing machine, and a dryer.

To enhance your stay, Karkalla Terrace offers unlimited Wi-Fi, a Bluetooth speaker, and numerous USB A and C charging points throughout the house, keeping you connected and entertained.

Nearby, you can enjoy a leisurely stroll to Sandy Bay shops, beaches, yacht club, casino, and through Battery Point to Salamanca and Hobart City Centre. For a taste of history, wander through Battery Point’s streets or take on the challenge of Nanny Goat or Billy Goat Lanes, immersing yourself in the area's rich heritage with its beautiful churches, gardens, and picturesque views.

Food enthusiasts will find an array of delightful bakeries just a short walk away, including Jackman & McRoss in Battery Point, Sisterhood, and Daci & Daci in Sandy Bay. Don’t miss the vibrant Salamanca entertainment precinct, renowned for its restaurants, bars, cafés, shops, and the famous Saturday morning markets.
