The Shambles

Well located for both the m1 and the town centre. Bustling pub but quiet over night. Good size room with en-suite. Comfortable bed. Shower gel, shampoo and conditioner provided. Nice biscuits!

Could have benefited from a fresh coat of paint to get rid of the scratches on one of the walls and the tea bags looked fairly old.

Nice spacious modern room . Comfortable bed . Adequate bathroom. Nice greeting from staff ! Nice looking Thatched building. We didn’t get a chance to drink or dine there as we were attending a family funeral with those issues covered. Would probably stay again if I had to visit the area.

A couple of the pillowcases could do with retiring . Shower cubical is a bit small. The watermarks would look better polished off on the Crome fittings . Bathroom window in rm 2 was not opaque, so the blind needed to be down all the time. Please change that!. Very noisy from early morning . Windows had to be open due to heat wave . No fan or air con in room. The Council plant watering machine was stupidly noisy. Then pub delivery truck, people / staff talking loudly, all between 6-8 am No dedicated Shambles parking so had to do council pay machine albeit not very expensive ! You can park in car parking area and still walk to the Shambles easily without crossing roads . There’s No lift, if you are in need of one.

Staff were helpful when we arrived Beds were comfy Asked for extra towels ( you get 1 each) and did receive them. One bottle of water per person left on arrival First night was fine- and breakfast (extra cost) was also fine.

Second night - incredibly loud karaoke in the pub booming directly below the rooms, raucous shouting etc until 12:45 am, no chance of sleep until late! No mention of such an event when we booked. Most rooms have windows which open onto pub courtyard/seating/ smoking area (also close to a kebab takeaway) so lots of noise/ chatter/ shouting (1:25 am when it quietened down). Have stayed in pubs before but not experienced this level of disturbance. Room not fully serviced even when asked (towels left on floor, bins unemptied,) No bath mats.
