Nestled in the heart of Portland, this historic mid-century modern home offers a unique blend of Japanese architectural influences and Frank Lloyd Wright-inspired design elements. Originally built in 1957, this home has been lovingly restored to preserve its distinctive features while incorporating touches that reflect the Guernsey experience of the Falla family, who once called this place home. From the large central fireplaces to the floating "clouds" with cove lighting above, every detail tells a story of innovation and cultural fusion.

Step inside and discover a spacious interior adorned with slate floors, shoji-inspired windows, and woven grass fabric ceilings that invite the beauty of the outdoors inside. The central stone volume not only adds a touch of sustainability but also creates a cozy atmosphere by retaining heat during cooler evenings. With a material palette that pays homage to both Wrightian principles and Japanese design concepts, this home is a true architectural gem that seamlessly blends form and function.

Enjoy easy access to some of Portland's most iconic attractions, including the Hoyt Arboretum, Washington Park, and the Portland Zoo, all within walking distance. For dining and entertainment, explore the historic Goose Hollow neighborhood, home to charming establishments like The Hof and Goose Hollow Inn. With convenient access to major highways and public transit options, exploring the city is a breeze from this centrally located abode.

Whether you're relaxing in the heated pool, grilling on the patio, or unwinding by the fireplace with a Netflix favorite, this home offers a perfect blend of comfort and convenience. With a range of amenities including a fully equipped kitchen, cozy bedrooms, and step-free access throughout, this single-level home is ideal for families, groups, and guests with accessibility needs. Come experience the rich history and modern comforts of the Highland House – a place where past and present converge to create a truly unforgettable stay in Portland.

We were so excited about staying at this house and the neighborhood. Location was great but sadly this house property needs cleaning in inside and out lots of bugs and spider webs inside. It was record high heat, over 90 and pool was not opened but listing said open by Memorial Day. No propane for the BBQ grill, only 4 towels and 2 washcloths for a 3 bedroom house. Simply this place is not guest ready, shared our concerns with Vacasa property management and nothing was done, no discount offered. Save yourself and find a better option.

I am a sucker for older, well maintained homes with character. This home delivered! Loved the vibe. It felt like stepping into a Time Machine. Also loved the Japan / Frank Lloyd Wright inspired layout/design. Interesting influences but it works! Floor to ceiling windows and long hallways make this home feel truly unique. Very comfortable living spaces. Plenty of room for a family of five (in fact we ended up not even using one of the bedrooms). Entire family slept well. No complaints about the beds/bedding. Kitchen was well stocked. There wasn’t anything we needed that wasn’t there.Neighborhood was gorgeous. We walked to the arboretum in less than 10min. Grocery store was not too far away. Very close to downtown but feels like you are in another world.Had some minor issues at check in but once we got in contact with the direct-manager, he went above and beyond to make sure the rest of our stay was comfortable and without stress (shout out to Josh!).Highly recommend this property and we will definitely stay here again the next time we are in town.
