Maison quartier historique avec jardin et parking privé

This house is truly massive, spanning four floors. The ground floor features a dining room, kitchen, study, and a huge courtyard. The second floor houses a spacious living room, a small gym, and a bathroom with some plumbing issues (the toilet often wouldn't flush). On the third floor, there are three fairly large bedrooms, a shower room, a separate toilet, a large washing machine and dryer, and—most notably—a bathtub I had really looked forward to using, though it turned out to be cracked. The fourth floor was formerly a children's playroom (packed with an incredible number of toys; any child of elementary school age or younger would go absolutely wild for it) and includes a child's bedroom with a view of the stars; unfortunately, the bathroom up there had no lighting and the toilet wouldn't flush. The kitchen is spacious and fully equipped with all kinds of utensils and seasonings; however, the local water is quite hard—we noticed a lot of impurities and a slight odor when boiling it—so it would be great if a water filter could be installed. This guesthouse offers parking located diagonally across the street (just a quick walk across the road), though the entrance is extremely narrow—though I’ve noticed that seems to be the norm in France. You have to be very careful driving in, but the parking spaces themselves are spacious! It would be better if the lighting in the lot were a bit brighter; I’m not sure what the local safety situation is like, but if a woman were arriving alone at night to park and then walking out, it might feel a bit scary...

Air conditioning and Wi-Fi, of course! When I booked the room on Booking.com, the presence of air conditioning was a key selling point for me; however, upon arrival, I discovered there was only heating. Fortunately, the weather wasn't too hot during our stay, but I still feel that if a listing claims to have air conditioning, there really ought to be cooling units installed throughout the space. On top of that, the Wi-Fi was incredibly slow—it made no difference which access point we connected to (or is internet service in France just generally that slow?). It was so sluggish that even simply browsing the web was a struggle. Also, the toilet on the 4th floor wouldn't flush and the light didn't work; the light in the 2nd-floor toilet worked, but the flush often malfunctioned. Fortunately, the 3rd-floor toilet worked perfectly the whole time! Also, this lovely house facing the main road had only a simple lock, so I felt quite uneasy when sleeping at night. I even considered wedging that large wooden door—which was sitting next to the main entrance for some unknown reason—against the main door, but it was simply too heavy to move—haha!

We had a lovely time in this very pleasant house that was just right for us. From the house, we could easily walk to many museums and churches and restaurants in Caen. That made our stay so lovely and rewarding. We also managed to visit the battlefields that we wanted to. The house is well provisioned and very comfortable. The garden is lovely and we enjoyed sitting outside. Plenty of hot water and all the modern conveniences such as a coffee machine. There is a supermarket and as well boulangerie / patisserie very near to the house, and plenty of restaurants nearby. The museums and memorials were exceptional and have really brought home the reality of war, the casualties of both civilians and soldiers. Altogether I have no hesitation in recommending this house.
