The staff were very welcoming, the bed was very comfortable and the place was only a few minutes walk from the station. However there was a strong smell of sewage in my bathroom and an occasional smell of cigarette smoke would come into my room from the hallway.

Clean, comfortable and close to shopping district. Rooms are small but come with an excellent private bath.
I stayed here 15 years ago and remember liking it more than the fancy $300 a night hotel room paid for by my employer for work nights. Now, if you need space or are traveling with children I probably wouldn't book but it is easily the best value for a comfortable room in all of Japan in my opinion.
