Oyado Ichizen

Small ryokan in the hills above Yufuin. Great Onsen. We stayed in the traditional Japanese room and it was very comfortable. It had a private Onsen that was incredible. The staff were friendly and helpful, and despite us not being from Japan or able to speak much Japanese, we never felt out of place or unwelcome. The breakfast was a traditional Japanese breakfast, amazing to see as well as eat. We only stayed 3 nights, but it was the most relaxing time of our 3 day visit.

Idyllic retreat minutes away from bustling Yufuin street

Very relaxing stay, the staff were very accommodating and the room was very nice. We had 2 private onsen baths which were very relaxing however one of them was too cold and I had to adjust the hot water. The parking was relatively simple and staff helped us into the spot and retrieved our bags. The food was great with a lot of seafood options, with some local speciality dessert given to us on a daily basis. It is worth noting that there is no laundry in the area and we had to go down to town to get it done, which was about 15-20 min walk or a 5 min drive.

This is my second time visiting Yufuin. Since I'm traveling with my parents, I specifically chose a hotel that offers a half-board package (dinner and breakfast included). From check-in and being escorted to our room to the dining experience and check-out, the service was truly exceptional. It was well worth the price.
