Casa Of Essence

The hotel was very shocking to me. No air conditioning in the hallways or lobby. The decor was overwhelming. You may call it charm, but there were too many Victorian artifacts and trinkets everywhere. Each room had a theme but the theme did not correlate to the Elizabethan statues and ornaments that were literally everywhere!! The elevator was old, small and scary. I took the stairs quite a bit. No matter how many times I put my floor number in first, it still took me to the 4th floor first. The a/c was off so I thought it was broken but realized later that it was just off. That part was odd. The tv was nice, but the remote had a mind of its own. It worked when it wanted to. Also, the front door to the street won’t close on its own. You have to consciously close it. There was no where to get ice or snacks that I know of those darn birds chirped and woke me up daily. I will say that the location is great! Right next door to the house of mofongo. The pharmacy was 5 minutes walking. It is quite a humble place. Do not expect US luxuries. Would I stay again? Absolutely but I wish for a different suite.

AC was excellent, shower was good size! Only issue was the blankets for the sofa bed!! Great location!!!

It was a great budget friendly stay!

The hotel is right in the heart of old San Juan. It was super super cute. It truly felt like I travelled in time. The staff were easily reachable and helpful, with very easy communication. The room was clean and neat. I will be staying there again.
