    We spent a lovely week in May staying at the Ana y Jose hotel in Tulum. The hotel is located just outside Tulum on the beach and there are plenty of bars and restaurants within walking distance nearby. However, a word of caution, some of the restaurants can be quite expensive if you're on a budget. If you rent a car, the hotel is in a good location to visit Chichen Itza and Coba as well as the local Mayan sites and cenotes in and around Tulum. Be aware that sargassum seaweed does invade the beach at certain time of the year. The hotel was continuously removing the sargassum while we were there but it constantly kept getting washed up on the shoreline and can be quite thick. The staff are pleasant and helpful and the breakfasts large enough to keep us going all day. I would certainly recommend this hotel to fellow travellers.

    Much better in the past . The quality has gone down significantly in the last year. Expensive, staff not as friendly as in the past, value has definitely decreased.
