Near Lanton, the other notable site is the Timpendean Tower, the remains of a tower house constructed in the 15th century. The town of Ancrum has a few establishments, including a pub, a shop, a butcher, and a Post Office; the neighbouring town of St. Boswells also has these necessities, and the larger towns of Jedburgh and Kelso, with their shops, cafes, restaurants, and famous abbeys, are well worth a visit.
