Sun home, Hirikatiya

We have stayed 3 nights at Sun Home and it was like being a member of the family. Everybody was really nice and welcoming to us and the host is such a wonderful woman with a lovely smile and big heart! She lives there with her husband, her children and her sister. We loved our conversations, and we loved the fact that she did everything for us. Breakfasts were homemade and delicious, she was very flexible with the breakfast hour, that was very convenient. She arranged a scooter for us for 2 days at a really cheap price. The location is great, only 15min walk via a really nice small street with lots of cafes and restaurants. It was really hot when we were there, but with the fan it was okay. Everything was tidy and clean. They have 2 bedrooms : one with AC and one with fan. The last day, the lady sewed my backpack that the bus driver broke and it was so nice of her, she completely fixed it! We definitely recommend staying at this place if you want to stay in a simple but nice house with a lovely family atmosphere.

My stay at Sun Home was great. Thus a bit hard to find, I just asked a neighbour and he showed me the way. I was a bit afraid of dogs after reading reviews but there is no worries, they just live their life, just pass by. The day I check-in, I didn't know where to eat dinner, they offered me to cook for me and I had an amazing rice and curry ! Every breakfast was great, in big portions, authentic Sri lankan breakfast, I loved it. We even had a small talk about Sri lankan's food habits and recipes. In the evening you can hear a bit of dogs barking but nothing that can be heard with earplugs. The family is warmly welcoming and nice.

Lovely family, very friendly and welcoming. Dad helped me as was struggling to get my luggage to the property. Mum speaks really good English. About 12 min walk to Hiri Beach. Bed was comfortable and nice bathroom.

Advertised as AC and there is none. It is a hot room. There was a standing fan in the room, which was quite noisy so bring earplugs. There are no curtains so bring eye patches for sunrise. The access to the room is through the house and family living room. Which wasn’t made clear on the description and I felt like I was intruding a little. Property is up a dirt track so I struggled with luggage on wheels.
