Winnie's Cottage - 3 Bed Accommodation in Cumbria

Great value and spacious property on the cusp of the Lake District. Very quiet location and pet friendly.

Couple of minor maintenance issues required but at this price point, would not put us off returning.

The location was great. Easy access to Wigton, Carlisle and the rest of the Lake District. The extra toilet in the ensuite was a god-sent at night! Easy parking on the main road though gets a bit crowded, especially on weekends/late evenings. Great amenities in the house and the bathroom was perfect for what we needed it for :) Great amount of seating and the dining table was perfect.

The bed in the main room was a quite hard, but we grabbed one of the extra blankets and that helped a lot. The stairs up to the 2nd and 3rd floor were steep. Manageable but we avoided walking up and down through the night. The neighbour was very forceful when we arrived about not blocking her ability to park her own car (though we only saw that car twice in the week we were there). We only parked in front of the house to unload/re-load luggage which worked ok.

We had a great time and explored the Lake District — the house is only about 35–45 minutes’ drive from places like Buttermere and Raven Crag, so I highly recommend it! Ben was very kind and always offered help at any time. The house is very cozy, warm, and clean, which made us really happy — and it even has a fireplace!! 😍❤️‍🔥 We spent lovely evenings with friends by the fireplace, with wine and conversations. There’s also a backyard, kind of shared with others, but nobody ever disturbed us there 😌 the house is just amazing — highly recommend!

The only thing is that parking can be a bit tight sometimes

Self-catering, the whole property was ours for the long weekend. The accommodation was very spacious, cosy and comfortable. Ben was informative in messages.

There was no folder to explain how to use the heating; how to get hot water; how to use TV etc – that would have been very useful and we have generally found that in other properties. Maybe this would have been included in an email which was due to be sent - I had a message from Ben at the property to ask for my email address, which I provided, but no other email arrived prior to the stay other than an email with WiFi and key information (nothing in my spam folder). Maybe have a printed folder in the property with guides to avoid this in the future. The ignition on the cooker was broken so it couldn’t be lit. We didn’t think to bring matches or an ignitor! Electric wires were hanging down from the oven extractor hood, so we were unable to use this. We didn’t have hot water as we didn’t know how/where to put it on. The drain outside the kitchen window was blocked, so flooded a bit. There were only 3 mugs in the property, but it was meant to accommodate 6 people. Maybe these were broken by previous guests but really should have been checked prior to the next guests arriving. There was no extractor fan in the en-suite toilet. There was no mattress protector on the double bed. A dirty towel was left draped over a dining chair.
